Cricket Chirp/Squeaking noise

I've got a squeaking noise that kind of sounds like a cricket chirping. I know for sure it's not a cricket, but I can't seem to reproduce the sound nor can I isolate it. I believe... And this is a wild guess but i believe it is coming from both the driver side dash corner and also somewhere in the center dash presumably insidr the a/c vents.

Has anybody else had this noise? What was your solution?

Is the sound only while in motion or does it happen when sitting still? Engine on or off? HVAC on or off?

I think a lot of similar noises are plastic on plastic vibration, like loose interior panels rubbing on each other.

The best solution is to slam down on some rocks a few times to develop a few more rattles and squeeks and that should make those chirps/squeeks you are hearing less noticable.

While driving. Usually when turning. I have only noticed it with the a/c on, but then again I only drive with the a/c since it's so hot and humid in GA.

I know the plastic noises and this is not it. I got a ton of plastic noises... Would anyone like to fix them for me? Drives me insane ...

This is my favorite method :)

At first I freaked out about all the little noises and plastic squeaks but I've come to realize it's a Hummer, not an Escalade. If it doesn't sound like something serious (ie: ball joints, clunks in steering, tapping from motor, shocks... ect) I don't let it bother me.

I managed to get it to do it again and I've noticed that it will usually do it when I have to turn in a slight right hand curve. It's obviously coming somewhere from the passenger side, but it never chirps long enough for me to actually locate the noise. Honestly, it sounds like a bolt or something is loose within the cabin.

Did anyone find a solution this? Mine is now doing this as well. I believe there is a very thing metal frame that sits between the dash sub-frame and knee bolster panels on both sides which might be the culprit here, but wanted to see if someone else knows for sure.

Might be a brake pad skimming the rotor. Under load, the rotors will distort temporarily due to the weight of the H2 wheel, and might brush the pad or one of the pad retainer clips.

Make sure you didn't accidently put the 4wd locker on. On my 08 H2 there is a knob that sets the front locker and on dry pavement makes the sound that you describe. Don't leave that on or it will bald your front tires and is not good to use on dry pavement.

I don't think the H2 has a front locker. On my 05, the locker is in the rear, and will only engage when the transfer case is in 4-lo. Locking the front axle on dry pavement (assuming that was possible) would produce a lot more than just a cricket-chirp e.g. the truck would jerk and jump when going around corners and curves, the front tires would scream, the steering would fight you constantly.

I've had a rattling in the front passenger dash area for awhile now---drive's me batsh!t. Since I only hear it while driving and I also have a short attention span I keep forgetting to look further into it. If my wife is riding with me she usually beats the dash around and it quiets down. Never seems to happen when I am riding passenger (that doesn't happen frequently), which would be the ideal time to try sorting out a good location where it's coming from.

While I understand that this is not an Escalade, in essence it should have been built to Cadillac standards and all this plastic squeeking shouldn't have taken 5 years for GM to redesign the interior to make that all go away. There are only a couple really sore spots I have with this having been a high end vehicle and the interior is #1. I'm amazed that the H3 having been the entry level HUMMER (cost wise) had a rock solid interior from the start.

The internal dash structure is built with a s-l1600.jpg plastic sub-frame with a very thin metal frame on the back side. (see pic) I'm fairly confident these little metal pieces are what's squeeking, I just don't know which area, and what would be an easy fix to quieten the metal to metal squeek

Check your front axle shafts, if the boots are worn or even have tears in them, the grease can dry out and make a chirping sound. If the boot is torn, squirt some lube inside the torn boot and see if it goes away, if so you can have a shop replace the boots, but its easier to go the auto zone and get one with a lifetime warranty, they replace them with no questions. Trust me I know I swap them all the time after I destroy them and they don't ask questions, and just get me a new one. :)
