Hunner. They're running the 6.0 engine. Not the 5.3 Alpha engine. It's far from an OEM setup.

Yea I gave up reading last night, got too late. I have to read up on that. What else is the 6.0 in? The H2 has a 6.3 or not?
Well I new it was highly modified and probably an aluminum radiator, double pass. I have found the early reports and comments on tape sometimes conflict with later reports as they come in. Like the belt thing Robbie pondering out loud that he could not understand them not changing and going on. He did not have all the info at that time.
Apparently this is an open class and most mods are allowed, except whatever that air system was.
I was in the shop on the laptop and was not up to speed on all that.
Oh well, interesting and thanks for sharing.

Dakar, like most European Motorsport events, have the intake size restricted. That's because manufacturers like Mitsubishi and mini don't have 1000hp engines. Since they have the big bucks and influence, they basically call the shots. The also limit the suspension travel. If Robby's truck was to be all out like he has it in the US, he would have smoked everyone. The way they limit the intake is with restrictors that choke the amount of air can go in. His CTIS system fed in after the restrictors, that's why they are claiming he is letting more air in than allowed. That's dumb because he always has had it, and has always passed inspection. Dakar is a competition created and run primarily by French people. Guess what happens when a non-French person threatens a French participant that has been a Dakar winner 9 times?

Robby's beef with his team mate wasn't so much with the belt issues, it was with the fact that he called it quits. The following day Robby has a problem that if his team mate was still competing, he could have helped him solve it in a much shorter amount of time. That's really his beef with the guy, and rightfully so.

Yeah anything French people organize will have some eccentricity. When they interviewed Robbie the night before showing off his Ctis he even said I can't show everything there is secret stuff in there. Perhaps the tube to the intake was not there in previous years or at inspection??

Hunner the Dakar hummer has its engine in the back of a full tube framed buggy. Slightly modified from stock...;) there are some fun dyno run videos on YouTube.

Was fun watching them do trail side repair after ripping up all the suspension on right side after hitting a rock while driving too aggressively off course. But it's sad he's back to 25th now. No chance of glory now disqualification or not.

Day 12

Robby smoked this stage!!!!!! Since he has no chance of winning the whole, I guess he's going to prove he can whoop some behind. Nobody got close. Unfortunately he's still 4th overall. He may still get 3rd overall. He's got two more day to do it in.

Guess I better do more reading. Why do they call it a Hummer? There is No GM sponsership is there?
I did read a bit about coming up behind someone and he said he hit the button. Horn? they did not moveover, he stated "they rocked us" then he hit a rock trying to pass.
I will try to find that youtube stuff.

Yeah it's called a sentinel (sp?) I think. What I perceived as a button the driver can hit to tell the show a$$ in front of him to move over lol.
Ya call it a hummer cause it has a hummer body on it lol. Ya sure wouldn't call it a gremlin :)

The side view mirrors are the chrome OEM ones we love to swap out so much. Now we know where they all end up. ;)

This "hummer" has run for 5 years now, in desert races like Baja and Dakar. I guess they used to have gm support if not full factory backing in previous years.

Haha I noticed the chrome mirror caps also. Well if that's the only hummer oem part that ended up on a desert race truck it must be the only part that truly is great and extreme conditions worthy. Now I'm gonna have to go find some chrome caps again for my h3 if Robbie uses them.

Day 13

Robby got 10th after pulling a front flip on the sand dunes. :( That drops him to 5th overall. Today he let his temper get the best of him.

I have to catch up on my DVr. I thought he was way down after losing over an hour on repairs, but I guess he was just 25th on that stage, not overall I misunderstood the results that night when watching at 1:30am. 5th is not bad!

Day 14

Robby takes the stage! Unfortunately it does nothing for improving his 5th overall standing.

Plus something to the effect of" I'm gonna school the mini's and beat them like a drum."

Stephan's response was something like we have rules and French officials from FIA that must be respected, even though this is a show...whatever.
