Does HUMMER have a future?

I heard about AM General getting something back from GM, that did happen apparently, as for specific details it's anyones guess.

The thing with AM General is, they're not as diversified as their bigger competitors, like Oshkosh, BAE, etc, all their eggs seem to be in the HMMWV basket and doing small runs of electric ford vans and that taxi/ADA van thing. If they were to do anything, it would be Dependant on the outcome of upcoming defense contracts.

With looming cutbacks, you may see the GTV/JLTV being cut and service extensions to update the HMMWV for use for another 10-20 years with a new drivetrain/cooling package. Who knows. If something happens and AMG loses out to Oshkosh, Navistar or Cat for HMMWV upgrades they have to start building SOMETHING to survive.

Apparently AMG won an award to make plug in or hybrid utility vans for 2013/2014, not connected to the Ford deal.

Sure, I'd like to see HUMMER come back. But I'd rather that they did it as a separate spin-off like Acura or Saturn. GM doesn't deserve to be affiliated with the brand. I keep seeing GM's new HUMMER as Pontiac Aztek bodywork on a Saab chassis. (shudder)

I was bored a few months ago, and I got to thinking... IF HUMMER was to come back out they could have 2 lines of vehicles. The H series SUVs and SUTs, and the H50 series trucks.
The H series would have:
H1
H2
SUT
H2T
H3
H3T
H4 (2 and 4 door, compete with Wranglers)
H5 (2 and 4 door, competes with Range Rover Evoque)
All of them (except the H1) would have the Hx styling, be available in base, adventure, lux, Alpha, and R trims, and would have an optional diesel engines and manual transmissions. They would be the best offroad vehicle IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL CLASSES, not against each other.

The H50 series would be a truck line with the styling of the H3T concept.
H50 compact pickup
H150 light duty
H250 HD
H350 HD
H450 HD
All would be available with different cab/bed combinations. Work, adventure, luxury, and Alpha trim levels. Optional diesel engines on the H50-H250. Standard diesel and dual rear wheels on H350 & H450s with removable rear wheels & flares for offroading. They would also have offroad features that most trucks don't have, like approach and departure angles, front lockers, on board air, and other stuff.

I know, its crazy, but I can dream.... That's what I would do if I owned the brand!

It looks to me like they are still interested in Hummer owners. It may be mostly to try to sell us their other product lines. But, after a while, they may come to realize many of us are only interested in an offroad vehicle. The H3 leveraged their small truck line (Colorado/ Canyon). My guess is that they may consider doing the same again with another one of their truck lines. The Sierra or Avalanche may be the more likely candidate - because as far as I can tell they are abandoning the small truck market. Yep, they may just do a compete redesign of the Avalanche and backfit it with some of the old H2/ H3 technology/ lessons learned. They might have to hire back some of the old Hummer development team! But, it will never be called a Hummer again - GM gave that away or would not be able to handle another publicity crisis like happened during the last round. Just my two cents.

The simple fact that GM is doing what they have always done chase the market. When our market returns so will the brand I fully believe that. The chance of that return is what everyone is skeptical about I know I will drive mine till the wheels fall off and some.
