Jeff and I made a trip to Hard Rock ORV park last week. 2 hummers and 40 jeeps spread between 3 jeep clubs. We had a good time, managed to keep damage to a minimum (cosmetic mostly). New Thor skid plate and rear bumper lasted a few hours before getting scratched!! Had a pretty good pucker moment on a steep climb, good thing i rebuilt my winch!!! Pics and vids attached.

:huh:in the second video.. you used winch to climb up a hill.. I can climb up easily without any locker.. You could have done that with a little more acceleration! Next time! Next time! Bring me, I mean I will go with you! I'm an enthusiastic off road driver... I always try to drive on difficult trails.
I wanna join you and that H2 driver!:horns: next time I will have no problems on my H3. all problems are being fixed right now.

Alex and I had a great time. We managed to cover a lot of ground even with all the jeeps running around. It felt so good to get back offroad, I had been so busy with work and family stuff, it was nice to blow off some steam and get the adrenalene going again.

David,

I would not be to quick to jump to conclusions about Alex having to winch on that hill. I was one of only two or three trucks to make it up that hill un assisted. It was very steep and surface was very loose. In fact just to stand on it, you would sink to your ankles it was so loose.

:)Yeah? That makes it more interesting. Maybe that hill can make me decide wether to trade my 3 for 2... I will try that first anyway .

Here is another video of the same hill, same day. Jeep made it to about the same point I did, and then slid back down the hill sideways. When my front end dug in, i lost momentum, and thats all she wrote. Its so steep we actually used a 3" strap tied to the H2 while we worked on getting the winch line out. My inclomiter was screaming so bad i just ripped out the power cord because I could not mute it. That climb according to GPS is 112 feet to the top. Like Jeff said, only 3-4 trucks made the hill that day. It was very soft at the top.

So what you're saying is your winch wasn't buggered up haha. Sweet videos. I'm trying to remember where that hill is. I think I've made it up that one. Just barely. Not sure though.

Drew, you haven't been on that hill, that's the other way up to roller coaster. You went the easy way last time. Of course easy is a relative term if your tires are bald. Lol

They must have brought the dozer through there recently for it to be so loose. Last trip w/ Hal that one seemed easier than the other side to me.

They had run heavy equipment on many of the hills, maybe cleaning it up for the clubs and long weekend. The one big hill going down into the pit was covered with mulch. I tried climbing it, even locked i sank about half way up.

You may be talking about the other steep hill towards the front of the park. That one is what Alex was talking about and was covered in mulch.

Depends on your tire tread lol. Once I got the Crushers on I did great there. I'd say they're about average with some big holes that are to be avoided. Also some ruts that have torn out side walls grrrr.

Hard Rock, depending on the driver and wether or not he has decent tires, is very doable for the average wheeler. There are only a few obstacles that I would not tackle in my rig, due to severe risk of damage and/or breakage. The park is an old limestone quary and there are several very steep climbs, lots of good of camber stuff, and several spots with decent size limestone rocks to crawl on. There is a bypass or alternate route for just about everything, to it is a great place for a newbie to get their feet wet.

There are a few private limestone pits that are much more extreme, but they are not open to the public, but several people go wheel and risk being fined/arrested for tresspassing. They are also very narrow and not very Hummer friendly.
