Mounting artificial rain gutters on the top outside of bed so I can mount a 78" Yakima crossbars and the roof rack pads that work with raingutters. This required drilling 4 holes, but these holes are covered but the plastic bed rail caps once installed. I also had to holesaw some access holes on the back side on the front as there was a second layer of sheet metal preventing a nut or tools to have access to backsides of mounting bolts.

Still thinking of what to do on top bolts. The hole is so close to top 90 degree crease that carriage bolt with the backside having big washer and nut plus space for a socket would not work. So I'll use an Allen heat from the inside but can't really fit much of a fender washer. Is that a problem to just have head of Allen or very small washer holding this load on sheet metal? Or is this metal strong enough near the bend especially to hold this load considering it will all be tight with 4 1/4 inch bolts holding this plate down of which 2 will have substantial washers on the backside. There was another Yakima rain gutter plate that only used 2 bolts that would have fit better but This is what I had and I wanted to get it done.

So here is one side of it done. I ended up just cutting the top off one of those strip washers. Also needed to cut some access holes so for the front mount to get to back side of bolts, holesaw cut through sheet metal easily. On back of bed there was access already. I'll show some pics soon with things on my new ,roofrack for my bed mainly it will be for RTT or is it a bed top tent now?
Btw look at all the gunk underneath bedliner, never imagined so much debris would get up underneath there. In a few spots it's already worn through paint. Wonder if getting rid of the plastic and linexing would be better.

When doing my install on rain gutter mount, bed rails could not be reinstalled without taking stuff apart further.
After cleaning up grime there is some corrosion, previous owner must have hauled dirt or something or it was parked outside under a tree. Since I've had it it's been in a garage. I'm gonna sand rust off and repaint so it doesn't get any worse. Not thrilled about what plastic bedliners do to steel underneath. In sandy environments I'd imagine it would be even worse abrasion to the paint. I just had soil and leaves.

Back bar is on, one more mount to go and reassembly. Bar sticks out the same distance as mirrors. Might get a bike rack and put bikes on the very edge on both sides. Softopper is awesome when you need it, definitely keeping mine.

Getting some good use out of crossbars. Also got Mototote hitch mount bike carrier. Glad it all plays nicely had just enough clearance. Dealer got me free new battery in last few months of warranty. Also installed the gm pal to hook iPhone/iPod in glove box. Not super impressed but it plays music well.

Another weekend a different type of bike. My whole setup makes it so easy now to pack up and go do a variety of activities and have a comfy place to sleep. Also with the bed cargo bars I no longer have to worry about the weak stock roof rack tracks.

New smoked led corners. Will have to get a daytime shot. Nice stealth look getting rid of all the stock orange.

Too bad they don't make tai lights for the h3t.
