Front end problem

When turning my wheels full lock to the left and moving it is making a loud pop on my 03 H2, I just had a front end alignment right before this started. Anybody else have this problem? Sounds like it is coming from the right side, and it's a loud pop.

I am wanting to upgrade the tie rods anyways, but could this be something else?

I think the H2 has torsion bars on the front end right?

Realizing it's a different vehicle, but my H3 had a loud popping sound when reversing and turning left. It turned out to be the torsion bar and the cross member they attach to. As I recall it was either the cross member or the t-bar indexing keys that were loose

I don't think its the torsion bar or torsion bar cross member, I've never had a problem there. Most of my poping noises from the front end were from the following:

The front sway bar can shift over time to the left or right of center and cause hit the tie rods at full lock.

Check your ball joints upper and lower and make sure they are good. Jack the truck up and see how much play you have in each ball joint.

While you have the front end up, check the front hubs by pushing the top of the wheel towards the truck and repeat, If you notice any play or slop the hub is bad.

Check the front and rear shock mounts, they can come loose and make noises that resonate through the frame rails.

Check the body mounts, they can resonate noise through the frame rails if loose.

Check the pitman and idler arm, center link and tie rods, inner and outer. Pitman and idler arm can be worn and make noises at full lock. (I replaced my centerlink and tieords with the Kryptonite ones whend I replaced my pitman/idler and added the cognito stiffner kit.)

Last thing that I can think to check is the skid plate bolts, if not torqued correctly the skid plate can make a poping noise. I use a rubber washer between my skid plate and frame before I torque the bolts.

Thanks for the replys, I just got in from the dealership and they found the problem. I had a front end alignment done and the guy did not tighten one of the bolts down all the way and some kind of pin broke, I can't remember the name of the pin but I will post it tomorrow when I get my paperwork back.


They can't be replaced, and the alignment shop has to make some kind of bolt to replace it, I told them when they get done I am going to take it to our authorized Hummer dealership here in knoxville and let them approve it and if not they were going to be paying them to fix it there. The guy that did it admitted to the owner that it was his fault so they are manning up too it so far, hope they get it right this time....


*Edit* The alignment shop and the dealership are two different places by the way, sorry to sound so confusing....

Thanks guys, I just hope it fixes it and is not just a bandaid. The GM tech said he had never seen one broke other than from a collision of some sort. The alignment guy says it happens and is an easy fix, but he is the one who screwed up in the first place. I should have took it too the cadilac store in knoxville, there to old Hummer shop and the only authorized hummer dealer in my area. But hindsight.....lol

Alright guys, the name of it as per the GM dealer is the eccentric pin. I picked it up today and it seems to be doing alot better, hope it stays that way.

They tore up the rubber flap a little working on it but I did not say anything, I'm just happy if the problem is fixed......

Yes it was totally gone, the GM dealer said he had never seen one broke other than being in a front end collision. The guy at the alignment shop said he see's it every now and then, I know it was popping LOUD without that little pin being there, not sure what it does but it made a difference....
