Well after getting home and having my Uniden BEARCAT 980SSB in my hand, I knew it wasn't going to fit to the right below my steering wheel. Pretty bum that it's not going to work out and need some ideas on where to put this thing. I just got the daystart center dash trey so it not going down the middle and I don't want it over my gauges. Last spot is on the roof but someone told it against the law to have anything 6" near the rear view mirror? Never heard of that but I don't want to just install the radio for trips, I want to have it at all time.

Beachbum had a real nice set up!!!!

I'm too lazy to drop the headliner - but I'd have sworn (before I saw your install) that it wouldn't fit there with the sunroof (I have a Midland radio that is now installed in my truck - I use a portable for the H3).

Well I got some auto Velcro tape and slapped on top of the dash and I really like how it came out!!!! Also I hate when wires are all over the place so I pulled back the weather stripping and tucked away all the wires.

The uniden bearcats are nice units too, I have them on my Hummer.

Some of the CB radioshow/radio whacker guys don't like the newer more modern looking units, mostly because they use surface mount technology and they are very difficult to get in with a solder gun and modify, but they are also more vibration resistant and durable than a traditional cb.

I love it but for some reason when I tested it, it said my ANT failed the test and my SWR is of the scale.

I put mine on the back of the center console. So I have to slightly look back to change channels. My kids ride in the back and no problems. I like the fact that if I'm not using it I can just pull the mike off and you don't notice it.

I am in the process of trying to find a place to mount a full size radio also. right now looking at right side of center console. I did mount the antenna on the spare tire mount. I put a wheel spacer between the tire and mount and got a little more room. I'll post up some pics when I decide, so I'll be watching.

OK I got my ANT working with my CB, with my side no ground mount I forgot to add the plastic ring before the power wire (cent wire on the coax cable). Now I'm sitting at 1:2 on the higher bands and 1:6 on the lower. Just saved me a few bucks and you got to love Youtube when you don't fully understand what your working on.

I finally decided along the center console. I still have plenty of room for the wife and the GB opens "most" of the way. I am running power from the 12 outlet for now I may hard wire later. It seems to be a good solid mount but I will have to put an ext speaker on the dash. I'm going to the local CB shop to get supplies. I'll take both my radios to have them "peaked and tuned".
I do a lot of driving and have found the radios to be very helpful during lane closures and traffic rerouting. Not to mention the occasional "smokey" report.

I put mine on the dash, which is actually fine its not that big

Sent from the top of a mountain in my h3
I sat mine up on the dash and was just about to say "OK" when my wife says what happens if we get rear ended and you eat that radio. I thought about it and was just about to move it to her side of the dash:whaa: and I laid it on the floor. The light bulb went off and now it mounted.:)
