Has anyone ever dealt with copyright issues by using GM part diagrams? I tried google-ing the subject and I cant seem to find much info, whether or not GM will let people reproduce material from a shop manual. I used to use ALLDATA back when I built snow plows and I know they have a strict copyright policy. If you're wondering why I ask.. I'm putting together a HUMMER website and would like to possibly add something like this to the content. I have some really good ideas that I'll be putting online sometime this year. Alex and I had talked a little last year and I'm ready to take it to the next level at this juncture.:thumbs:

You should buy the domain name hummer.com instead of some media company from nyc that doesnt know squat. It would actually be useful for people.

GM can be very picky when people start using their copyrighted materials without paying. Alldata, Mitchell, Motors, etc., all pay for the right to copy GM's material. I'm going to guess if you set up a website, within a few months, a GM attorney will contact you with a request to delete all the info. If you are selling it, expect a more serious letter.
A few SM illustrations or parts manual illustrations wil not cause any problems, but a website dedicated to Hummer info will attract attention.

Pretty much what I thought too (and I'm all set with cease and desist orders). Suppose there's nothing wrong with community contributed DIY submissions, since I want to keep this open source for everybody.

We did get contacted by another company a while back about copyrighted stuff being offered for free on here. I removed the link - which really didn't hurt us as the code wasn't working anymore anyway. Point being - some copyright holders are looking for their stuff being out there and they act on it.
