Got my PCM tune back from PCM of NC...what a difference

I was very skeptical of the impact a PCM tune would have..seemed too good to be true.

Well, just got my core PCM back and slapped it in...instant change of behavior in the old beast (06 w/ I5).

Much better idling, takeoff, highway performance and overall shifting....it's everything I expected...should have done it a long time ago. Only oddity is that my "change oil" message is coming on, despite having just changed it...easily taken care of with a reset. I also had the passlock bypassed so I didn't even have to do a security relearn.

If your hesitating to do this mod, don't, well worth it. Going in to the dealer to do the CASE relearn Thursday.

That sounds great I sent mine to predator motors and got the Rap-torque PCM. I put it in and now I have to take it to the dealership to get a CASE re-learn done! I would've sent my PCM in but they told me it would probably need a case relearn anyway something sounds fishy not getting much help from predator or hummer parts club.

"If you send in your own PCM, you do not need to do a security or CASE relearn. If you install a core PCM and the vehicle does not start, you will need to do a security relearn. This occurs about 75% of the time. If you install the PCM and your vehicle does start, you do not need to worry about the security relearn. Security relearn instructions are included with your purchase. Try not to read too far into it, just do as it says. When in between steps, allow the security light to turn off before trying to start the vehicle. Also make sure you cycle through the relearn for at least four cycles or until the vehicle starts. If you cannot get through the security relearn, unplug the battery for about 10 minutes and then try it again, or perhaps have a friend try it for you.

A CASE relearn is a Crank Angle Sensor Error relearn, which realigns the position between the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. This relationship helps the vehicle determine advanced misfires. Anytime you install a new PCM into your vehicle that you intend to run long term, you need to have the CASE relearn done. So, this would apply to any of our core programs. The CASE Relearn can be done by anyone with a Tech 2 scan tool, advanced snap-on scanner, or also a Dashhawk or Aeroforce Scan Gauge depending on the vehicle. It is a 5 minute procedure. Cost will vary depending on where you go – you may want to call around first before deciding between the core program or loaner program. The CASE relearn will not keep the vehicle from running, however it should be done within at least two weeks of installing the new PCM. Once the CASE relearn is done, it’s done. You do not have to redo it if you switch back to your stock PCM or unplug the battery."

Hmm, I was just contemplating this for about the 100th time. I don't know why I never pulled the trigger before.

Me too. It seems rather appealing with me getting bigger tires... another great thing is that they can delete the whole passlock crap.

Moral of the story...send in your PCM and wait for it to return. I would never trust an exchange, and I wrote my name on both PCM and TCM with a Sharpie prior to mailing them. I've had PCMofNC do mine twice for tire size adjustments. Both times they were back in my hands within 2 days, and both times they were plug & play with zero issues.

Only issue is dealing with GM's ridiculously over-complex plug design.

I agree with 4Speed 100%. Don't do the exchange. It's not worth the hassle and it was back in 2 days both times.

Same here, mine was back in a few days and I never missed it. I'm sending mine back in when I change tires and exhaust. They are also able to tune for ethanol and that stuff (10%) is everywhere in SD. Sometimes I can't find 87 without it.

That is great info guys! I wish I knew all this before I did Predator PCM swap, the CASE relearn costs $108 at GM dealer. The performance is much improved with new PCM!
