Greatest H2 Builds

From what I gather (just reading tid-bits of what he has said in random threads) Mud is building his H2 up quite a bit too. Aside from the custom bumpers it sounds like he's doing some serious upgrades to the steering (more than just OTS bolt on stuff).. maybe more?

I know, i know... I need to get a build thread going. I have so much **** I'm doing to this rig, I dont know where to start other than just listing all the stuff off first then going into detail later.

How about Big Black? That thing is very well built, even though he doesn't wheel it.

All I'm really seeing on the "Built up" 2's is adding a buttload of weight to an already heavy truck. My experience is the 2 is a very capable(like all Hummers) off-roader with some minor mods. Don't get me wrong, I dig the looks of some of these rigs, just not really sure where the added armor helps....unless you're on your side or upside down....LOL

This is more or less what I see as well. The vast majority of built 2's you see feature bolt on parts and accessories, I'm guilty of this! In my mind these don't really qualify as a build. In comparison, if you look at some Jeep build threads (jeep jokes aside!), these guys are cutting and chopping, swapping axles, new cages, ect., closer to home we have Bebe and Recon, Kurt's H1 has had a ton of work done to it, and I'm sure there are others that haven't made threads, or I'm just spacing out... But very few H2's with an equal amount of work.

I do agree with both statements. I think the key may be in this statement, " My experience is the 2 is a very capable(like all Hummers) off-roader with some minor mods." The H3 has some very well known "weaknesses", i.e. front diff, rear hangers, steering, etc. for which there are no good "off the shelf" bolt on solutions. So this makes them great motivators to start making serious modifications.

I think the H2, as a basic platform, is really pretty damn good right out of the box. I think the biggest issue for them is the tie rods, for which there are good bolt on alternatives. The need to make serious alterations to the truck is not really as pressing, and the hard core mods, like engine and axle swaps, are not as necessary. The truck can get it all done, without breaking, in pretty much stock form. Yes, it could use a little more power, better MPG, a tad more ground clearance, but what rig couldn't? I think it is just a matter of motivation.

Any pictures of the H2 with 41's that solar posted about?

Here are pics of it on 39.5's (credit for photos goes to Flash)

Another picture I had saved of it on 39.5" Iroks. There are pics of it floating around on 41 or 42" Iroks.

His name is Rick Grucz and last I knew he sold it to get an H1.

The further this thread progresses, and the more time I spend thinking about it, I would say this statement is pretty spot on. There are some weak links on the H2 from the factory, but nothing like other 4x4 trucks on the market. Also, even though the price of used H2's has been/is dropping, the cost of the truck, plus a handful of heavy mods (like a duramax swap or sac conversion) gets you in the neighborhood of an H1.

Not to discount the amount of work that has gone into your truck though! I respect the amount of custom work you've done to get your truck where it's at. It's a very practical build, which I'm all about, don't go messing that up with a lift now :giggle:

I spent a good amount of time over on THCI's site last night/early this AM trying to dig up more photos of this truck (I know I've seen more!), but I was pretty unsuccessful.

I honestly don't know much about the rig, shy of the obvious stuff, but for whatever reason I have a raging eBoner for this thing. Maybe it's the fact that I've heard (numerous times) that he wheeled this thing, hard (that big dent in the passenger door looks like some proof!)... or maybe it's just that H1-like rack on the back :emb:

I don't blame you, I have a hard time documenting what I've done to my truck (which isn't a lot), I can't imagine keeping all your work straight. Although I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious to see what you're doing with the steering portion of your build. It seems the general consensus is that the steering is one of the major week links of the H2, so I'm pretty curious to see what has been done to (hopefully) correct it!

I have spent a lot of time researching it and have came back with very little information or pictures....which is weird because I remember seeing more also.

I also don't know much outside the obvious (2" body lift, huge Irok tires, front / rear winches, Rubber Duck UCP, and etc) and what little I have found/read....
Ricks truck had a 2" body lift. The pucks were just generic body lift pucks from JCwhitney. Green keys and then he stuffed the 42's on. And cognito upper control arms.

He also had do to a TON of metal trimming underneigth to keep the tires from scrubbing badly. They still scrub at full lock but at least it will go go full lock.

The idea was to get massive foot print on the ground while not losing ground clearance due to T-Bars beeing dropped.

The reason I am so obssessed with this rig is for pretty much the same reasons. This thing has been wheel and wheeled hard! This quote pretty much says it all...
I dont know how he did it but everything on his truck is insane in person. thing looks like its been through hell and back multiple times... and to top it all off. Its his DD

Maybe its the fact that he took a $40k++ rig (at the time) and wasn't afraid to cut it up and beat the **** out of it. I would love to know more about it also and would love to see some more pictures (especially some action and carnage pictures). I will make a post on THCI facebook today and maybe that will be more successful.
