Last night it wouldn't start. :gaah: Turns out the starter is going out, and some banging on it with a jack handle got me going - straight to the local Chevy dealership service center. While there I asked them to check the power steering (needs new PS pump) and to give it a thorough check-out (oil cooler line leaking, tranny cooler line leaking, serpentine belt cracked). Starter and power steering should be covered by extended warranty, but the rest comes out of my pocket. I bought this thing in December, and immediately it needed some front end work. I knew about the leaks from when I had it checked out during the front end work but since they had to order the parts I decided to wait until the next oil change, I noticed the power steering acting up right away when doing slow turns for things like parking, and the belt is really old. It's possible that the starter is just now starting to going out, although past experience tells me it's also possible it could be a long running issue that only happens once in a blue moon. Either way, who doesn't take care of their vehicles and stay on top of things like these before they become serious issues? Especially Hummer owners. These are not dirt cheap econo-boxes that people drive into the ground then just throw away.

I wish I could buy cars from someone like me. I can be rough on my vehicles, but I also fix every little thing I know needs fixed. I dropped almost a grand on my mother-in-laws pick-up a few weeks ago. I took it to get an oil change, the brakes were shot (5% pad left in the front, 10% pad left on the rear, rotors and drums both needed replaced as well), and a plugged EGR valve was throwing a CEL.

Looks like I will be without my 2 until Monday afternoon.

Have already replaced my starter. Had it towed from AAMCO to install a tcase I ordered for it. Right off the tow truck it wouldn't start. Was told it started when the driver picked it up. Funny, I asked what did you do to it? When we got the starter off, you could see and hear the drive gear going back and forth when you tilted it.
Power steering pumps suck with the 2. Especially if you are running 37's and aired down. Good luck turning from a stop. I'm thinking of going with the agr upgrade pump for it.

They have been too busy. Hub got done same day. And have gotten stroked since. The way it happens where I'm at. Soon, really soon so I'm told. Or bust it out in the carport, damn UCP is heavy though

Do you need me to run a Craigslist ad to get you some help with that too-heavy-to-lift UCP? Just make sure that you feed and pay them well when they show up at your house!

If I do, I'll contact Alexis seeing you can't do it on your own

My dueces were great cars mechanically. I didn't have any of mine past 48K though" skeptic, like you, I don't defer maintenance or repairs on my vehicles.

To keep things in perspective... At 8 years and 85k miles, the repairs I've had to do are pretty minor. Some worn out front end parts, window trim needing glued back down, starter, PS pump, leaking oil/tranny cooler lines. It's just a bit of a kick to the teeth that I've only had it 3 months and I'm stuck taking care of everything the previous owner should have done.

Yep, it's frustrating have a vehicle down but you do have a good perspective on this. Much of this is normal for a vehicle with several years on it.
