I have a guy that will make an aluminum console lid to look similar to the stock one when everything is all set and working properly.
While I have it apart I’m installing an Alpine X009U head unit, removing the factory 4wd switches and I’m going to try to lower the A/C controls and fit a touch screen Spod in between them. That might be a challenge.

Did your 4l60e take a crap?

Looks good! I like it and I really want to do the 6l80e bad! My 4l60e took a crap unfortunately but may stick it out a little longer before doing a 6l80e.

My plan was to try linear actuators to not tear up the console or cup holders. I will mount a bracket off the t case and it will move the shift rail.

If you google NP205 air shifter it will show what guys have done with pneumatic shifter. I would do it with an electric actuator. It may or may not work out, I’ll try it but if not I will go the route of a traditional shifter.

No. I just wanted the better ratios in the 6 speed. We put a LS3 and 6L80 in my friends JK and it’s a beast. I did a cam swap, headers, dual exhaust with high flow cats and a tune on my 5.3 and it a seems to run better but I only got to wheel it once before blowing the hole in my T case. I got a good deal on the atlas and I figured might as well do the tranny too. Didn’t want to have to mess with the cables and fitting it twice.

Badass! How many miles on are your 4l60e trans? Would you be interested in selling it?

I totally would love to do the 6l80e swap and I’m sure at some point I will.

Will you be able to start in any gear with the tap shifter? Like starting in 3rd if you wanted to in 4 low?

What atlas ratios do you have?

I used it as part trade to the guy that I got the 6L80E from.

Yes I will be able to start off in any gear. That’s why I went with that shifter so I could control it.

I know some guys that didn’t do it in their JK and they want to upgrade to a tap shift.

Looking forward to the 2.7:1 ratio I will have now too. It will will be a good in between.

Badass! I’m curious how you will like the 10.34:1 with all the gear ratios in the trans 5th and 6th gear will give you a 6-8:1 ratio...having options is nice!

I will be 1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 8:1.

If the guy will sell your trans I may take it!

I’m curious to see how it is all said and done, I strictly would love the 6l80e based on highway experience. When cruising at 80-85 mph it’s hard to pull 4th gear TC locked at that speed. 5th gear TC locked would probably be happy at that speed.

A low end torque cam would probably help me too...these LS motors like to make power up top.

What cam did you go with?

I haven’t heard back on the trans yet.

I went with a LS9 cam with the intention of getting a supercharger for the motor in the future.
For a naturally aspirated motor and to increase low end torque I read that guys recommend a LS6 cam. But it’s all over the board.
I talked with Steve at Powertrain dynamics in HB and he recommended my setup for what I was planning on doing.
It’s a never ending project like yours and maybe I’ll swap to a 6.2 instead of the supercharger. Never know what the future holds.
My computers arrive today so we should be firing it up and see if it drives with the new trans and transfer case. I’ll let you know.

No. I’m hoping today is the day. Had to hunt down some fittings for the transmission lines and get the trans dipstick tube in.

It runs and drives! Unfortunately I’m stuck at work until Monday so I only got to hear about it. I’ll be able to get some pics and video on Monday when I get to the shop.

One issue we have is the key won’t come out of the ignition just like when the battery goes dead so that will have to be fixed. Probably has to do with the new shifter. Got a call
Into the programmer to see if he knows what’s causing it.
Ended up modifying the trans tube that was on the 6L80. Tig welded AN fittings onto the fitting we got that fit the stock trans cooler and made new lines

I feel like a dipstick is the least of someone’s worries on a build like this...

Lokar makes 6l80e flexible dipsticks

If you need to get a “temporary solution” to get the key out you can remove the electronic piece that plugs in the key cylinder. That will allow it to go in and out.

What did you end up using for the dipstick? That was a nightmare for our swap

The trans came out of an 09 GMC Denali. They ended up modifying that one to work.
I looked at an aftermarket one but he told me we could make that one work.

I’ve been slammed with work so I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with the install. Mostly ordering parts etc.

I will put some detailed info together once I get everything squared away and get my hands on it for a few days.

Atvspeed4 is everything working with your swap?

Thanks I’ll try that for now.
I was reading online and it looks like it’s not getting a signal from the shifter to the park interlock. I printed out the wiring diagrams today and trying to figure out what I need to tap into.

I think so, about 100 miles after the swap we bent an intake valve stem on our 20k mile L96 so not many miles on it but we just finished fixing that. As soon as we put the new Dana 44 front diff in and plumb in the air locker we should be ready for a wheeling trip next weekend and I'll report back

Right on glad to hear it’s working. You went with the TBMS harness right? Did you have to do any additional wiring? Did you keep the stock H3 shifter?

Definitely did not go with tbms after extensive conversation with them they cannot make 4lo work in an h3 with tapshift. They also cannot make the reverse lights on the H3 work due to our bcm. Yes we are running stock transmission shifter and custom 241 shifter

Back on all 4 wheels. Got to take it for a spin today. The 6L80E made a huge difference out of the hole. Before The 4 speed had trouble finding the right gear between 70-75. I can’t be happier with it now. Atlas 4speed is no joke with the 10:1. Tap shifter is working good. I can start off in any gear. It should work well when taking off in 3.8:1 or 10:1. Speedo works properly.

I just need to address the service 4wd light problem and re hookup up my ABS to get those light to turn back off. All in all happy with the install and performance.
I will post good videos when I get it back from the shop. I tried today but it was a little harder then I thought it would be to drive and video. They are finishing up a few things and making a new center console.
