DANG!!! Hams here too?!
I was looking around, seeing these leters and numbers that all looked sort of like Ham call signs. Well, what do you know...?

This be the place.:) I think Mikkel has his set up. He should do an install thread for each of his many radios and antenna.

WB2HUQ, NR6E you are five and nine into delta mike one three. Handle here is Mikkel, running a Yaesu FT100D into a HI Q vertical. Fine business old man, back to you.

I will absolutely do install threads on my VHF, UHF and HF setups, just need to clean each up a little.

There's a couple of guys who have HF setups, you should check out NCAlphadog's posts, he has a really nice thread about his setup. He and I worked each other cost to coast mobile to mobile, barefoot, a few weeks ago. Very cool!

A real nice radio! That covers everything!
Heck, I remember back when the HF radio was as big as a VW, glowed, and was impossible to mount in any vehicle let alone a H1, 2, or 3. Back in the days... I was running a Kenwood TS-930 at home and assorted Kenwood 144/440 mobile radios. When I look at the Hummer, it would be tough to fit a good radio in there without building some kind of shelf.

Did you see Ncalphadog's install thread about how he installed an FT857 in an H3? Any inspiration to glean from that?

I've been thinking about a removeable HF radio for the K5. Or maybe an auxiliary antenna connector to attack something like a baloon-hoisted vertical wire?

I wish everyone I wheeled with would at least get a tech ticket *COUGH* alrock and JerryS *COUGH*. A good dual band HT is very affordable and fine for vehicle-to-vehicle comms. I hate having to decipher what people are saying on the CB :p

Balloon setups tend to sound great on paper but get messy easily if there's even just a tiny bit of wind. Hi Q and tarheel antennas tend to work quite well for a mobile HF antenna

I've seen the balloon setups used at the larger desert race events usually running off a pit crew truck. They seem to work well for that use.

With that being said, you can get away without a ticket if you are just using a radio for the trail. I see hundreds of radios in use at various races for race radios and most folks don't have a license.

Sure, you can use MURS radios or if a race event has it's own commercial license then that's an option, too

I've been busy . . . or lazy . . . or procrastinating . . .

Maybe if you actually fixed your CB install it wouldn't be an issue. :)
