H3 Has anyone used a Yakima rack?

Lookin for racks but dont have alot.to spend on one...does anyone know the quility of the yokima megaload rack 48x 52 ...or even a place to get a rack around 500ish

Did you mean yakima? If so, I had a mega warrior on my 3 for awhile. it works well, and is easy to take on and off. The downside is that the oem cross rails do not handle the weight very well. I got a lot of vibration, especially with my hi lift mounted. F5 has had good results with the basket and using yakima cross rails to mount it to.

I had the hi-lift jack mount and the axe/shovel mount on my rack. The bike, ski, and snowboard racks made by Yakima will attach to this basket.

I always like to drop in on this and share my setup, as do others. It's been awhile so here it is.
If you tighten up the OEM rails by adjusting the shoe that rides in the track and make sure they are on a high spot not one of the detents you can haul lots of stuff up there.
Ask me how I know!
I put a link to how I modified mine a bit to accomplish even better gripping.

I just very recently decided to add another cross bar and move the others out some in anticipation of some adventures. I have not had any problem with mine sagging or touching the roof. I try to load heavy stuff evenly and tires spread the load because of their size. Both of these trips I just had two OEM rails.

Some good looking Setups there gentlemen...my 3 unafortunately didnt come with the stock cross bars so I have to get ahold of some

Ha ha it's the Rola. At the time I bought it, I paid $150 with the extension I think. Now it's $250 with extension and free shipping. When I got mine I had just dropped a bunch of money on the H3, winch, rock rails and lots of stuff. I just want a rack for when I need it. I often remove it for driving around town, by myself. I remove it for using the cross bars for boats to keep them lower but my canoe with some padding will go on the rack.
So I weighed the decision, buy a big full coverage heavy rack or just one big enough for what I need and buy 5, 35 inch times with the change. badabing!
I guess it depends on your needs. Weird thing is I don't see many people with anything ON their huge racks.

I know i dont have anything on my roof, except a spare tire, but that because im not traveling at the moment, itll have a lot of goodies when i travel hehe

Backwoods, i would go the route of aftermarket cross rails, because i think with them and a roof basket it will be cheaper then buying OEM cross rails and a roof basket.

I bought my second set used off the forum for $75. If it helps I got a set online new for $139. Just have to shop and decide which way to go.

IMHO, skip the stock cross bars and buy the Yakima ones. With the control towers, landing pads and Load warrior, you;ll have a solid setup that is a bolt on and forget it sollution. I have had 3 freinds all with Yakima racks on their H3's. All three had to reinforce or replaces the stock cross rails with yakima product.

the other nice thing is you can get key lock cores that all match too. Keep an eye on REI for when they have their 20% off sales. that's about as good as you;ll find unless buying used.

or hold out for a used GOBI. There are pleanty of them floating around and pop up on here, CL, and ebay.

It's a Defender half length rack, I just rust proofed and sprayed Rust-Oleum truck bed coating on it. I have Hi-Lift jack and spare tire brackets for it. Do ever get to the Houston area, come by my shop we'll mount it and you can buy lunch. Cheap enough?
