eBay Hummer H3 Flip Keys

Dang, the problem with my truck is that the first owner added an aftermarket security system so that I would have to use the aftermarket fob regardless. Sort of defeats having a flip key IMO.

I guess for now I'm gonna have to pass.

I finally got around to taking mine into Tustin Hummer to get it programmed. The good news is they replaced my broken key fob under warranty. The bad new is they charged me $60 to set them up. Maybe because I had 3 key fobs to program?

The best news is the flip key job works perfectly. The guy at the service desk was so impressed he asked for the link so he could buy his own.

How long did it take for you to get it? How’s the quality? Don't have to worry about programming costs as we own a Tech II, so that’s a plus.

I think it was supposed to 5 days but it arrived on the third day. The quality seams good, although the key isn't perfectly straight and centered when closed. However, that would only bother a perfectionist. The corners are rounded a little so it is comfortable in your pocket.

It takes less room in my pocket than the original key and fob. I've decided to keep the rest of the truck keys (locking gas cap, SlantBack, lock on the spare tire and the lock on the trailer hitch pin) in the center console, so all I need in my pocket is the flip key fob.

Thanks Mike, I noticed the key wasn't straight in SlidusJ pictures and that had be a bit skeptical of the quality at first. Anyways, I ordered one and once it arrives ill have the Chevy dealer cut the key and ill program the key fob. The main reason I want it is for less room in my pocket / more compact.

I called OnStar to get directions to a lock smith on our way to somewhere else, but they directed us to an obsolete address twice. I finally stopped at a small Ace Hardware and they cut it for free. They said they only charge for the blanks, not the cutting. That worked out well.

Test the key on both sides. Mine works better on one side than the other. However, it seams to be improving with wear.

Went to the GM dealer to pick up some parts for work today and got the key cut. If they were to cut the key using the VIN it was going to cost $10 but if they used my old key, there was no charge because it was my own key. Didn't get a whole lot of time to play around with it but so far so good.

Ok I received the flip the other day & took it to a local locksmith and he wanted $140 to program remote and cut key...which is crazy.....then I took it to a GMC dealer and they said they won't touch it because is not an OEM item....so my question is where can I take it?? And did you guys had to go through this??

If I remember right anyone w/ a Tech II tool should be able to do it

$140 is outrageous even if it includes programming the remote. Yes, anyone with the Tech II can do it.

I took mine to Tustin Hummer and they charged me $60 to program all three key fobs. They didn't complain about the aftermarket key. They said they would try and they would charge me even if it didn’t work. They were surprised that it worked and the service manager asked for the ebay link so he could buy his own.

I had Ace Hardware cut the key and they charged zero $. They said they only charge for the blanks and cut them for free, so since I brought in the blank they cut it for free.

Sorry for the late reply but like Mike said, that price is outrageous. I would check with another dealer as planned. My local Chevy dealer had no problem cutting the key for me and didn't charge me anything.

On a side note, I am having the same problem with my key as Mike. It seems to work a lot better on one side then the other. The Chevy dealer suggest I bring both keys back in and they run it through the machine once more to take some more off. They feel this will resolve the issue.

Mine started working on both sides. It just took some breaking in I guess. I was stubborn enough to keep sticking it in the way it didn't like (no I'm not talking about my wife) and it started working.

I saw these on ebay a while back but the pictures on the listing where from a weird angle and it made the case look huge. After seeing it's actually quite compact I ordered one too.

I accidently left my Flip Key in my pocket and ran it through the washer and the dryer and it still works! I think that says a lot for the quality of construction, although not so much for my brain! I’m really glad it still works. I wouldn’t want to be without it and replacing it would be expensive.
