info regarding extractors

hi guys quick question. I have a h3 with a badly cracked exhaust manifold. cheapest ive found in Sydney where I live is $1k for extractors they will custom make. but ive found a direct bolt on set no mods required online for $500. ive thought about tackling it myself which ive done on many cars but im worried after reading many people snapped there bolts in the engine block? and I read somewhere they had to disconnect there air con pipe? any idea? tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks

There's several aftermarket ones out there between $500-700, I don't know what or if you have smog laws there. When I took mine off it was because I had 2 broken bolts ( very common problem) and it was leaking . I used lots of penetrating spray on all of the bolts and let it soak in for a couple hours . When I removed it I then noticed a very large crack in it. To remove the broken bolts , I drilled the centers and used an easy out bolt extractor . When I started this I thought i was only replacing the 2 bolts and I hadn't planned on replacing the manifold so I didn't get one prior to starting . As I started to look for one I found out mine was still covered under the smog warranty ( all other warrenties had expired ) , so the dealer towed mine in and replaced . Taking it off was not that bad , I didn't remove any A/C lines , just the heater snap in lines above it. The broken bolts came out fairly easy . Good luck .

I just removed my headers because they're illegal here. I have the mesablackworks extractor. Retails for 725 USD.

Made my H3 noisier because it cancels the first cat, but loved the performance off road.

Wont be putting it back on, let me know if you want it.
