Hi! My name is Eric and I just picked up an 05 H2 SUT with 101,000 on the ODO. I sold a very nice triple turbo'd Dmax and this was one of my toys I bought with the money. Found it at a big dealership in VA for 19K.. very well taken care of, no rust, loaded with every option hummer made, Airaid intake, new gibson exhaust, Rockford speakers and sub with stock head unit, etc..

Ive done some searching on here and can't find exactly what I"m looking for. I've been an Admin on duramaxforum.com for a LONG time.. so I'm familiar with the "search" haters

1. Looking for a head unit to replace the stock NAV one. After calling a couple places, they all say that there is a big bar that stops 90% of the Double DINs from fitting.. is this true? I wanted a Pioneer X4500BT, but I'm told it won't fit. Any suggestions on if it will? Or any other better Double DINs?

2. Looking to get new wheels.. keeping the stock BFGoodrichs, as they are brand new.. So I want 17 inch wheels.. but I don't want them to stick out far enough to beat up the paint.. I ran 20X10's on 35X12.50's for years, and my paint hated me.. So what backspace/offset can I run that will look nice, but not push my tires out far enough to do damage?

3. Want to remove the spare tire and carrier.. Suggestions on a license plate mount? cheapest I found was 400.00.. seems kind pricey for a license plate mount. Also, that extender piece for the tow hitch is welded in.. am I gonna have to replace the entire tow hitch?

4. Are there any "common" issues with the H2's I should be aware of? Warning signs for failure of any sort? I've noticed a scraping/hissing sound that comes from the engine bay between 15% and 30% throttle, but goes away at high throttle or very low throttle. Is that just my aftermarket intake? Or a leak? I've drove a diesel for years, so all these sounds are new to me.

Dang.. so to remove that spare I'm def. gonna have to drop like a grand? I think the worse part is... it drives me SO nuts I'll have to do it whether I want to or not.

First of all welcome!

1. I don't recall seeing anything the multiple times I have taken my dash apart. At the same time I'm still running my stock unit so I couldn't tell you a definite yes or no.

2. Even the stockers will throw junk on the side of your rig. Some don't care and some will install E&G offroad flares.

3. I'm not sure if FYR is on here but we met last week. He removed his and installed small screws with built in lights. There are definite cheaper ways then buying the stock pocket.

4. Common issues vary from rig to rig but most of them are brought up regularly. The hiss you talk about it most likely the intake.

Sweet! I spent A LOT of time on Dmaxforum, so I'm hoping to become a regular on here and help out a bit once I tear into these things. I just really want that freakin spare tire gone bad...

Welcome from So Cal. You might want to check eBay for a license plate relocate kit. $400 sounds extreme. I used to have one, will see if I can find it. Common problems, check the front hubs especially at the mileage. I've been through three sets and at 175k. Although I'm running 37's and it been wheeled a tad. If you have air suspension might take a look at the air bags.

I will def. check those. I'm ordering new wheels/tires today for it, so I'll probably replace them just to be on the safe side. Nice thing about this rig is that it was a VA owned and garage kept vechile it's whole life.. which means it was a pavement princess I was going over the under carriage and it looks nicer than my wifes 2012 Sienna we just bought. And I think I found a plan for the tire.. I bought a black steel license plate with a backup cam built in.. I'm gonna remove the tire/carrier, and then drill and bolt that plate holder on the back bumper. That way it's blacked out.. has a cam, and should look half decent. And I'll just leave the current tow hooks/etc.. from the carrier there, because I don't think it will look horrible.

Well, I can assure you that I won't have that problem. I just ordered tinted light covers for everything.. new tinted side markers.. I'm blacking out the grille.. and buying new wheels and tires to remove the chrome ones. Only things left that will be chrome is the door handles and step bars. I want to make this one "mine".. but don't wanna go overboard like I did with my Dmax.

Yeah, it's def. based off the band! They were my favorite in college, and I'm really surprised that NO ONE ever uses it.. I swear that every forum or place I visit, n0useforaname is available. Makes me feel old. I played in many bands over the years, and back then NOFX, nouseforaname, snapcase, boysetsfire, hatebreed, etc.. were my bands!


And to ALL... thanks for the warm welcome! I see I'll probably be spending lots of time on here And one thing I will say is that on my 4 hour trip to VA and 4 hour trip back.. I was the ONLY H2 I saw on the road.. And in my area there is only one guy who owns one, and it's an SUV.. having the SUT kinda separates me a bit. Not sure why more people don't own these.. they are SWEET.
