I'm a new member in Delaware. No, I don't have a hummer (Dodge RAM 4X4), but I am interested in off-roading in the mid atlantic area...

Hope to meet some of you in person!

I just went the other way and traded in my hummers and went for a cummins. One thing I like about the 2012 longhorn which is what I have is that the interior is remarkably similar to a 2009 hummer h2, except the electronics are far more advanced. I just finished adding a long arm 6" lift and 37's. I got really used to big tires from the hummers and a 3500 with 32's wasn't working for me :) I am looking for some good UCP for the ram, better than the factory ucp which I have now.

I will say this as an observation. The diesel truck can probably move a mountain, BUT the ram truck isn't a hummer. Of all the offroad vehicles I have owned including 3 hummers none compared to the 2010 H3T. That truck was quite literally a mountain goat on wheels in completely stock form. I did things with that truck, totally stock that only modded jeeps would do. I would be hard pressed even with my modded diesel truck to keep up with my old 3T.

Hey Angela. I was wondering how you and your new truck were doing. Sounds like you are doing fine.

Yes I get a lot of compliments on the truck, especially now that it's lifted. There are not a lot of longhorns out there, and I have yet to see another 3500 longhorn other than mine. I am guessing they are pretty rare. The cummins is unreal. This truck can be going uphill and the engine doesn't even seem like it's working, just chugging along at 800 RPM's. I really want to see how ths low rpm torque is on an offroad situation. of course the truck doesn't have the approach/departure angles fo the Hummer, but it has power to spare.

I have a few more things I want to do, and then I wouldn't mind joining up for some offroading fun. I just need to protect the drivetrain a little better than factory. The stock setup protects the lower part of the engine to the transfer case, but the rest is pretty much open. I also want to add some decent rock rails. Most of what's out there are nerf bars pretending to be rock rails. I am still up in the air over adding lockers to the truck. I am not sure just yet. The only other thing I worry about is the rear diff. It's a massive hunk of metal, much larger than the H2 or the 3T was. I am guessing it can take a pretty good hit, but I just don't want to find out.

I wish Ram would start listening to customers, like the way GM ignored customers. There are literally thousands of people asking "when will there be a diesel power wagon?". At least they now offer the power wagon wth the upscale laramie package which is more H2 looking than any other truck I have been in and I ought to know what an H2 looks like inside :) Until they make it, my only option is to build it myself, which is actually turnig out to be fun :)

The newest generation of electronics 2012/2013 is making the stereo, if you can even call it that, look more like an iPad than a regular stereo. Now they have apps you can install and upgrade. I expect that there are going to be some interesting changes coming in the near future once downloadable apps become a bit more popular. As it is, I can check weather, diesel prices (even with directions to the gas station), movie times, pandora, etc. A lot of the mobile phone stuff is showing up on the dashboard now and it all integrates perfectly with the NAV. The wireless streaming works perfectly too. As long as my phone is in the truck, then I can play any music I have downloaded to the phone through the stereo wirelessly. The truck has 3 USB ports. I keep a phone charger hooked up to one so I can keep the phone charged while I am driving. I have an Mp3 player hooked up to another port. I can switch back and forth from iphone, mp3 player and sat radio through the stereo and control either one without ever touching the phone or the mp3 player or taking my eyes off the road. It even works with the voice commands.

There is one really nice feature that they added that in my mind finally makes satellite radio worth paying for. The truck streams the music to the hard drive temporarily. I can bo go back and listen to a song from the beginning if I want to. With favorites, I never miss music that I happen to like. Some times I stack up the tunes and just listen to them when I am ready. In fact I found when I hit around 40 favorite artists on the radio it is literally non stop with favorite music all across the radio dial. Now I have more favorites to listen to and there are not enough free minutes to listen to it all :) It's pretty cool stuff.

Curious, with so many states having "distracted driving" laws on the books ( texting/phone use while driving ) it is surprising the manufacturers are adding so many features to the entertainment system that can be accessed while driving. Hopefully I get to see your truck someday. Sounds really cool.

Back to the OP's thread, yes we are car/truck nuts. If it has wheels and climbs over or through stuff we like it. :)
