Hey all, long time forum visitor, first time registered. I have a 2007 H3X w/88K miles that I love and it looks almost pristine, sadly it has a real problem — its frame/chassis is severely corroded/rusted beyond a simple repair. You would not know it by simply looking at it or seeing it on the road. I took it to a classic car restorer/auto body shop that I trust in my hometown and I’m told I need a replacement frame/chassis; he said he would not take my money to do a repair that would do no good. He was shocked by the severity of the problem because there is no rust/corrosion on the body itself. I can only explain it by having driven it on salted Kansas roads in the winter, but the last 10 years it’s been in Austin, TX, stored but driven regularly. It also has another problem I’ve been unable to identify, it eats batteries. It will drain a battery in no time if not driven regularly or if the battery is not shut off/disconnected. The body shop guy wondered if there may be a correlation between the battery issue and the corrosion problem, like improper grounding; but again, no luck in finding a problem. Has anyone on here had any problem remotely similar?

In the meantime, I am in the market for useable, unwrecked, good condition, frame/chassis w/relatively low mileage. I know that is asking a lot. Thanks all!

Unless you have a real attachment to your H3, I would suggest you sell it and buy a clean H3 with no rust. Here in SoCal, H3s are going for as little as $2500. It will save countless headaches and might save you some cash. H3s are known for parasitic drains. The OnStar is obsolete and is a notorious drain. Then, inspect the rear wire harness above the hitch, also known for rubbing wire insulation off and ghost draining.
