I did a layout on my gear yesterday and I have a OK setup and wanted to know what else should I carry for self recovery and recover others?

What strength are your tow straps? I use the 30,000# version. For a winch I would include a tree saver and line blanket, even though a coat can be used. Didn't see gloves but I am sure you have some.

I would ditch those chains. MTC

I'd consider keeping the smaller chain and make sure those straps are recovery straps, i.e. ones that give when yanked and have elasticity to them. That big chain must be heavy! And not sure whether you'd consider this a trail spare vs. recovery, but do you have a tire repair kit and a compressor?

For the hi-lift I'd recommend getting a bumper mate or whatever they call it. Not many flat places on the H3 to use the hi-lift.

Chain can be used with the hi-lift for a winch setup, but I certainly would not use it like a snatch strap; maybe as a tow chain.

This works on the D-rings....
