Your asking a lot from a D44 with that size tire and that much torque.
Changing to a limited slip may save it. I had a spicer in front in my jeep and once I learned to ride the brake over an obstacle to help lock the front end. A learning curve to drive, but worked well and saved the D30 I was running.
Just a thought

Can't make it through the day? Back up, and get a run at it!

I made an AAM-7 last for years but it was open. I figured I could make a 7.6 ring gear that deflected to hell and back for sometime on 35s I could make 37s last on a locked Dana 44

D60 here HELLO Chris. Stop waisting you time and money on baby steps, save little longer and do it right ones and for very long time. Don't forget H2 rear end.

Well GMC did that trail without any body damage, so H2 possible.

Speaking of wasting time why would you waste your time with an h2 rear end its semifloat...is it a good axle? Yes...but if your gonna do all that work go full float.

Let see u can get one for ~$800 with locker, ABS, all ready for semi direct swap. Can handle 38+ with ease. Question is why would u use something else. Look at Danatrack it's expensive and they only give u option e-brake or ABS, WTF is this.

Dynatrac

The 44 is fine. If he goes full width, 8 lug he'll need wheels and tires and more electronics work. H2 rear axle is not optimal for an H3. I would say to heck with both and build some Ruff Stuff Ford 9" and call it a day.

I saw the ruffstuff housings and holy **** they are badass!!!! On there JK they have abs retained. Ruffstuff is probably more affordable then dynatrac and ruffstuff housings are more slippery and if u buy a junkyard housing for cheap you can transfer over parts till you wanna upgrade

serge is the h2 rear axle abs plug and play? I doubt it is

Very doubtful, it's a complete different abs system between the two rigs. Like Bebe said, you are also going to 8 lug

8 lugs why would you have any less?

dynatrack may have figured out jeep, but my D60 still doesn't give me correct ABS wave form. Hopefully in next few month I can spend some time fixing up all existing issues on all of trucks.

yes but can u have ABS and e-brake with it?
GMC doesn't have neither one for that matter and I prefer to have e-brake. I believe his is a DD so I would think you want it more civilized vs. dedicated offroad rig.

That's a shame. I paid less then 500 bucks for my abs system from CJ using a junkyard axle and never had an ABS issue. Dynatrac should take some notes...when paying more then 15x what a junkyard abs setup they should be problem free

Like Bebe said, you don't need it, is it nice? Certainly it would be nice to flog the piss out of the skinny pedal and never ever have to worry about breaking but on 37s and driving smart I can keep it together. While I went through 4 ifs diffs on 35s I wheeled Moab, some hammer trails, all over the place wheeling smart for years. A 44 is no 60 but it certainly is no aam7.25!!! Luckily my 10 bolt has not giving me too many issues, just one e locker. It's eaton weakened not the 10 bolt.

It's a daily driver. A Dana 60 may just make things worse from an MPG standpoint. More drag more weight but who knows, my rule of thumb is normally 3-4. Let me break a few more times but this wasn't an axle 44 weakness this was lack of fluid and an improper gear setup from a previous owner and who knows if he was using some cheap Chinese gears or Yukon...not sure. This is a start over and now I can track it with parts I know.

best part was when a yota on 1 tons and 39.5s comes up to squeaky (which is a little baby compared to that thing) and was snapping pictures of my rig. :)

Before it was blasted and paved. A good portion of that video was shot on the post pile (Wentworth Springs side).

The Rubicon is a lot like Golden Spike in the obstacle department with more rocks, and longer.

But it has lakes to swim in, a lot more trees and vistas that go on for days.
