steering box whining noise

So I replaced my steering box (remember I have a solid axle and a '88 4runner power steering box) and it keeps making noise.

I bled the system by turning the wheels lock to lock with the front elevated and the reservoir cap off, but it's still making the "not enough fluid" whining noise. Any ideas? I'm going to keep on bleeding it I guess. I checked the belt and it seems tight and doesn't look cracked or old.

The noise is most prevalent when I accelerate or when I turn the wheels.

you're probably: sucking air on the pressure line (pull the line, check the seals), your pump is toast, or you have a crack in the power steering gearbox.... with that said, do a full check around the motor - what sounds like a pump may not actually be a pump

seems like it could be the pump or air. It sounds like it's coming right from the reservoir area. I will bleed it once more then possible find a way to check the pump?

The box itself isn't leaking or feeling sloppy....the other box sucked. I hope I can get this thing working right!

I think its time to redo the steering. I believe the shortcomings and problems are from a setup that is not ideal.

I'm working on it man, getting some steel plate reinformement for the frame and going from there. Flat top knuckles are tough to find though, unless I plan on spending $300 or more..which I'm too cheap to do. Then there's the drag link and the tie rod which are $$$ too since it'll all have to be made custom. it's going to be a mission and a half. I'm definitely doing it though, gathering parts is just my downfall right now!

I just put the box in, so I think that something isn't right. Air in the system, or possibly the pump is messed up becaues I drove it 300 miles with a busted box back from camping. It was a bitch to turn that thing haha The new box looks good, feels good, and isn't leaking...I'm just getting the noise that I'm only used to hearing when there's not enough fluid. I'll figure SOMETHING out.

I have knuckles with high steer but have chopped off lo steer arms can u make high steer work? If so 150 shipped they are yours

Hook a hand vacuum pump up to the reservoir cap....pump it down to 12-15 inches and hold it there for five minutes. Problem solved.

The whining is due to your fluid being whipped into a froth. You gotta pump the air out of it.
