HHmmmm interesting. . This kinda happened to me as well. . Only difference is the noise. . .didn't really hear that noise until the transmission actually died. Mine didn't get as loud as yours did. Anyway upon investigation, we found that the dip stick tube attached to a bracket had broken off and caused the transmission to lose fluid over time. Then one day the fluid all spilled out after a long out of town trip with off-roading involved. The next day I went to the store and that's when the transmission started failing, that night the transmission died. I was able to drive it on reverse and 2nd low shift gear. I refused to go to the dealer so I just found a good deal to get it rebuilt to last long. Got mine rebuilt for $2,000 w/ 2yr warranty.
