Stuck in Muck

I live on 5.5 acres with access to two great fishing lakes. Best part is the lakes are surrounded by private property so no one in the general public has access to them without trespassing. I have run back and forth to the lakes behind my house with my truck and john boat on top for the past 12 years with no problems. There is a small depression you have to cross prior to getting to the lakes, 9 months out of the year it is bone dry, but on occasion it will accumulate about 1 foot of water from rainfall but never problem to cross. Well, this year has been unusually wet and I had an interesting weekend. Went back and forth to the lake behind my house several times on Saturday with no issue, a little slippery in the low spot, but nothing to major. We got hammered with rain saturday night and my daughter wanted to go fishing on Sunday. So no big deal, like we always do, loaded up, got to the low spot which had nearly a foot of water, dropped into 4-lo to creep steadily through like always and got about 1/3 of the way in and felt some resistance, so I hit the throttle and we came to a dead stop. Huh?, I put it in reverse to back out and nothing, stuck. So I got a couple buddies over, both with 4x4s, but no winch. Hooked up some straps and they tried to pull me out in tandem. Nothing, again huh? By this time the H2 was framed out burried in about 2 foot of muck which had the consistency of jello pudding mixed with sad and the suction was ridiculous, held me in like supper glue. Even with the other two trucks hooked in tandem they could not get enough traction to pull me out. Decided to leave the truck until the next morning when I could get a skid steer and a 3500 cummins dually 4x4 to my house. Managed to sink the skid steer to the top of there tracks and spent about 1/2 an hour tring to get it unstuck. Finally got the skid steer out and hooked it and the dodge hooked up in tandem and they were able to break me loose. We broke one 4" snatch strap in the process. Here is a map of my property and a couple of stuck pics. I got a lot of laughs because I got my Hummer stuck in my own backyard, geesh? Anyway, enjoy, my pain your gain.

Sounded like time well spent.
I had days like that. Went on a evening drive around and got stuck in my stock YJ in a place I drove through a dozen times. Walked home and grabbed a tractor and couldn't pull it out. It sat over night and tried to get it out all day the next day with the tractor. Finally late that night I got a neighbor with a K5 tried to get me out and he got stuck. We snapped axles on a fj40 on 38s trying to anchor himself in the ground to winch me out but that didn't work. The fj had to get running start to snatch me out to break the suction that had built up over night. During that time a new ford fx4 got stuck beside the jeep. By 11pm almost everyone was unstuck. We couldn't get the K5 out it sat until the next day and it took a Skidder to pull it out.

well, if you're going to get stuck, I suppose getting stuck so bad it takes several rigs to pull you out is the way to do it. my brother got his old 70's F250 stuck in a lake in Louisiana. he was out blasting around some dirt roads in the woods and confused the lake for another dirt road. anyways, he got it stuck so bad a back hoe had to pull him out. also, it was in the water pretty deep so it destroyed the truck. oops.

Get a Pull Pal. I always have one precisely for the situation you're in.

"Ex Umbris Venimus"

That has been on my short list of items to pick up from quite some time. I was over 300 feet away from the closest tree and my which is on the front of my rig and I could have self rescued my self with a pull pal for sure.

There was a group stuck across from my cabin on public land. It started with two ATV's stuck. Within a few hours,4 ATV's ,two side by sides, one F250, one skid steer and two lifted jeeps. They had to call a logging company with a Cat on flotation tracks. The cat had to be brought in from over 50 miles away. He required $1500 cash before he would pull it off the low boy. I wasn't up there, but I herd it was a hold my beer event.

Well, carpet dirty, hmmmm. Thats another story. Had to let my truck sit out there overnight until I could get the skid steer. So that night we got another round of pretty heavy rain and I discovered the floor boards the next morning covered with water. Turns out my sunroof drains are clogged also. So Ive been trying to dry out the inside for the past couple of days.

I've stuck myself pretty well in my own backyard as well a couple times. Good thing about it is you usually have all your resources handy to unstick it.

actually, if you're deep enough in the mud (or have water covering your drains), that would cover your drains... it sucks, though

I'm the same, though if I get stuck in the woods, I have friends on several SAR teams that I can call. The downside of that is I have friends on SAR teams and asking them for help is about the best way to be certain that you'll never live your stuck down.
