Before the snorkel...I had to remove and wring-out the air filter once. The air box will store 3 or 4 cups of water.

No sorry...the guy totally blew me off. I sent him a list of 16 items I wanted off a salvaged H3. He emailed me back and said he didn't have any of them (which of course means..."I don't want to mess with it").

Try Butler Auto in Florida....866-973-7278. They have some wrecked H3's and they are closer to your location.

About 30 mikes and I had water to my back seats but I was proud of her. She got me home that night with the lights and wipers freaking out, to work the next day. The following day was a Saturday and that's when she locked down and had the dealer picked her up. All new fluids, rug, fan clutch, fuse block and few other things.

ok so pulled my front carrier to check it out before I ordered a used one. the ring gear and pinion look good and spider gears look good. theres a little slop in the yoke and carrier bearings seem to have a little play. trying to figure out if its gonna be feasible to order a bearing set and install them or just trash it and go with a 72k mile used unit. anyone tried rebuilding one yet? got a good rear end guy that will put it all together for me. just wondered what people with more experience on these think? also along with the popping from the front end it had a pretty good roar coming when I got it to the shop.

You can rebuild the AAM-7, and a situation like yours is the only time I would do so. If its just worn or needs a fresh-up...its worth putting a couple hundred bucks into it. However, if its been blown or broke...I would just throw it away. Its normal to have quite a bit of lash. All of the AAM-7's I've seen have been relatively "loose" compared to most other production axles I've seen. That's not cause for alarm, unless you can physically feel some "shake" in the pinion bearing or it is whining at highway speeds (usually during coasting).

If you heard popping, and checked the front diff and found nothing....then that wasn't the problem. It was probably the t-case binding (sticking between modes), a CV-joint, or one of many other components. The entire suspension on the H3 can make all sorts of noises and this makes it hard to troubleshoot the real problem. Frankly...I'de fill it up with fresh lube and put it back in. Look elsewhere for the noise.

yeah I kinda wondered about it when it all looked good and I cant feel any binding when I turn the axles with my hands. the right front cv axle is a little stiff feeling after I pulled it. wonder if that could be causing the popping ?

Check rear-end of the front driveshaft (at the T-case). There is a CV-joint with a rubber boot on the end of it. That joint is prone to failure, especially after going submarine. That little guy can make horrendous noise when it runs dry, and the sound can transfer down the driveshaft and make it seem like the noise is coming from the front axle, when actually...its three feet behind it.

$900 for a new transfer case? That would be a steal. Typically they start about $300-$400 more than that.

I told them to push it in the parking lot and I would come trailer it away. now having to find a nr6 model transfer case which is not awesome. anyone got any leads on good places to look in the southeast
