sunk my h3 on 35s over the weekend tried to cross a ditch and it had no bottom water inside of truck and water dirt everywhere. got it pulled out and drove home skipping at idle. changed oil put sea foam in tank cleaned entire motor no further probs but now front diff is popping under power from start checked out axles and seem to be fine. front oil is milky so im changing it now. but noticed bushing on cross member is cracked pretty bad and if you put the truck in forward and reverse it moves up and down at chunk. wondered if this could be the prob any help would be nice.

Usual the diff bushing in the cross member wears out and cause the diff to move and cause a clunk or banging sound when power is applied. If you get an aftermarket bushing it will go away.

I would change all your fluids (not just the front diff) and when you are changing the diff fluids take a look at the gears to make sure you didn't damage them; I assume there was a bit of a struggle when you got stuck.

Could be water in some electrical connectors as well. Might want to get some WD40 into any that may have been affected

You might check the rear end of your front driveshaft (where it bolts to the T-case). There is a small CV-joint down under there. The joint is somewhat sheltered by a small sheet-metal cup, and its supposed to have a rubber boot around it. But, if you got strattle-stuck...you very well could have ripped that boot. Like all CV-joints....no boot, no grease. No grease, no joint. Once you spin the shaft underwater with a ripped boot...you essentially power-wash all traces of lube out of the joint. The boot material on the driveshaft CV is not near as durable as the boots on the half-shafts. Its not corregated either....its actually more like the soft interior rubber your shifter-boot is made from! Total junk. Anyway...its worth a look. It makes a similar popping sound as its dying.

You might also try cycling your t-case between 4LO-4HI-4HI street a few times...driving forward and reverse for 50 feet in each mode. Not sure what causes it but, my t-case has gotten "confused" a couple times, and it makes popping sounds when it does. Cycling thru the t-case modes seems to "re-boot" things and solves the problem.

Ok fixed the cm bushing today at my shop. But after fixing and changing front diff fluids I noticed my front yoke has some slop up/down and sideways. So this is where the poping is coming from. Looks like I'm gonna have to pull the chunk. Anyone got any tips on it. Never Pulled one like this apart. Easy rebuild fix or should I just try to find a used chunk ?

I think most of the H3 guys don't bother with rebuilding the front diff carrier bushing (assuming that's what you are trying to do) they either get the Preferred Chassis Fab version, or get it replaced if their truck is still under warranty,

Get a used axle assembly from a junked H3....they're easy to find and cost around $500 to your door. I've bought several this way, and its far faster and cheaper than trying to repair the one thats currently in your truck. Obviously, you need to make sure you get the correct gearing (4.10 or 4.56). It would be nice to find an 09-10 axle, to get the cast-iron version. Additionally...it would be nice to find an ADV PAK version too, so you could get the locker upgrade. However, since you're probably grinding teeth inside it...you're in a bit of a time crunch (no pun).

Try one of the nation-wide salvage websites like Schram. I've bought two front axles from them...always got fast delivery and good prices. Also try Wayne Auto Parts in Ohio...they've got 23 Hummer's they're currently parting out. Realize ahead of time that these guys rarely know what an ADV PAK is...or what year its from. Their computers simply say "H3 Front Axle 4.56 gear 2006-2010". Ask for a picture ahead of time, if you have any doubts. They will usually email you a shot of the exact part so you can see what you're getting. The CI version will be painted black. The alum version will be raw silver finish. If you can't find one let me know...I know some top men.

Swapping a front axle is cake. Just pull the brakes, hubs, half-shafts, and front driveshaft. Then drop the lower crossmember. Three bolts hold the whole thing to the truck. While you got it out...put some REAL bushings in the outboard mounts. These will help keep it from flopping around under there. Nice product here, and sorely needed on any H3.....REAL BUSHINGS

Still waiting on that. I sent the guy a list of (12) parts...the axle was one of em. I'm waiting to hear back from him with prices.

Third on the fluids to include tranny and check brake reservoir as well. If you have stock intake setup the resonator could have water in it as well. Throw some Dry Gas in the Gas Tank as well. Check your Doors as well, pull the grommets to see if there is water in them and also let air circulate thru.
