The to-do list is getting too long!

Jeez, a bunch of work has gone into the H3 but the list keeps getting longer.

To do:
  • Exhaust manifold repair. Reloader found a guy that welds them often so we're going to give that a try. Actually, it leaks at flange (no broken bolts) and it has a crack above the cat. Muffler guy said they often crack below the cat.
  • Sway bar bushings, front and rear. More give, bigger gaps than Denver's defense
  • Tires. Getting 35" KM2s. But the Duratracs are $70 cheaper each, and I need five tires. Argh, decisions.
  • Radiator. **** aftermarket radiator neck is 1/10" too big, meaning cap isn't sealing. Redneck fix in place with silicone tape around cap. Working nicely, actually
  • Leaf springs. Really need to fix the rear sag with the full length leaf addition.
  • CV axle - torn boot on one, will swap it out under part warranty
  • Bad clunk in front end today. Big clunk, momentary binding in front end, then a few seconds later, smaller clunk, smaller binding. Driving straight when taking off from a stop light. Axles appear intact. Diff? Not sure what else would have caused the front end crunching and binding/hesitation.

If for some reason he can't weld it, PM me and I will do it. If the cast iron part needs welding just give me a bit of advanced warning - I used up the last of my E680 rod when I welded my D60 tubes to the pig, and I haven't replaced it yet. If the stainless part needs welding I can do it on short notice since I have plenty of stainless rod on hand

Huh??? Oh, it's a Superbowl thing! I get it! :p

FWIW Todd really likes his MT/Rs with Kevlar...

Maybe it takes a different cap? Otherwise I'd call the manufacturer...

Or get a spanky new set of Deavers. Wring the credit card 'till it begs for mercy!!!!

Sounds like fun times...

Does it seem to affect one side or both?

It was a straight ahead type feeling, truck had a minor crunch, lurch feeling, kinda like when the femur gets caught in the wood chipper. Stopped for a millisecond but then crunched and rolled on

I felt the same way last year when I got the truck. But as I started taking care of things, the list has gotten shorter. My list has been a mix of mods/upgrades and maintenance items. I'm getting closer to what I wanted outta my truck when I bought it. After almost a year of owning it, I'm happy how far it's come. I've heard countless times that our trucks need almost constant attention to keep operating properly. I hope to have a year or so of enjoying my truck. That'll put me at around 100k miles and I'll be looking at replacing the front end components... Just be thankful youre in an area that weather is on your side.

I got the add a leafs when I had my H3. it added approximately 2" in height. I liked the ride a lot better with the add a leaf and it did great off-roading. plus for $99 shipped, it wasn't too expensive.

My list has got fairly long. I got parts at work on my desk that I had since before Moab last year. Still not installed. I have a set of Thor parts weld on skid plates to beef up my ucp. Need to do some data logging and see if I can pick up some power and mileage. Rear locker for sure this time. The list is on going.

Hopefully it's not that "piece of pinion tooth being washed through the ring gear" type of lurch/crunch :(

Looked at them all. Inspected underneath tonight, nothing obviously broken or loose.

It was a sound like that. Hopefully my ears are not properly tuned

Digg, I can't even tell you how much has gone into this truck over the past year. The list is getting longer for me, not shorter. I'm not upset about it, just momentarily frustrated. It's wear and tear from an off road trail as I try and get some more experience :eek and I enjoy the work. Truck is running better than it has in quite a while.

That's why I'm trying to "accessorize" my truck with things I want now. I haven't had a chance to get it out on the trails yet but I know as soon as I do this year, the list is gonna shift to diff bushings, cv shafts and other "wear" items that seem to wear out faster when you take em off road. It seems to be all part of the game.

Drained the diff fluid today. No chunks, nominal shavings. While we didn't pull the diff cover we (we = Reloader) inspected the gears through the fill hole and poked around inside with a magnet. No chunks.

Chalking this one up to: our trucks make ugly sounds every now and then.

Did the rear diff too. It was due for service anyway.

I managed to get some of your to do list into an envelope. Hey, you request the smallest package going out to save on shipping. Had fun bending everything to get it to fit.

Bending stuff to fit? Hmm, that might work better than your usual method of leaving stuff out to get it to fit.

When you can get an exhaust manifold gasket to fit in an envelope. It is impressive. Hate to be the buyer. Took me 10 minutes to get it in there. I assume it will take way longer to stretch it out unfold it. And might leak. Oh well not my concern.

I'm guessing the manifold gasket for an I5 is a single-piece affair? The Cummins uses six individual stainless steel shim gaskets. Easy-peasy to ship in a Priority Mail envelope :)
