tranny went out!? can i drive it?

Ive had no problems or warning signs. I just pulled out of a parking lot and within 15 feet the transmission slipped and acted like i was in nuetral. I tried d1,d2 with no luck but d3 kicked in and i got to a parking lot. Reverse works fine. I cut off the truck and starting with d1 i can launch and then shift to d2 and d3 and it works but shifting to regular drive yields nothing. Just revs. Anyone know whats up? Can i drive it like this or will something tear up worse? Is it going to be a total rebuild? Any idea as to what to do? Thanks in advance. Im bugging out. Mine is an 06 with160k on the clock

There have been some other posts you can search for about a similar problem. IIRC, it was an electrical issue.

I don't know much on transmissions, but I would start by checking that nothing is leaking from beneath where your parked, and check if the trans fluid is low for starters

serachs yield random results, nothing on this forum. I saw it could be a broke sprag, whatever that is, or possibly a bad neutral safety switch. Either way sounds expensive. fluid is good, no leaks

I called a recommended transmission shop. I was quoted 3 days and $1600 for a rebuild with a 1 year warranty.

The guy didn't even say he needed to trouble shoot he just gave me a quote for a rebuild. Is it normal for them to go out at 163k? Seems kind of early for transmission failure. I've had nissans that had over 300k and tranny was fine. then again I've also had bmws who blew them @ 35k

Depends a lot on maintenance. Has the trans fluid & filter been changed every 50K? If not, its been on borrowed time.

If you have to pull it down and open it up to troubleshoot, you are at 80% of the labor of a rebuild. There are kinda no magic fixes. On a teardown and inspection, you can find any broken parts, replace them and go back with fresh clutches, steels and seals.

That makes sense. I just did my wheel hubs two weeks ago, a week before that I did my brakes, now this week I kill my transmission. fingers crossed I can keep her running for a little longer. she is almost pad for!

I feel your pain. Mine went out week before Thanksgiving. Then I had 3 back to back months of repairs to my rental unit and repairs to my wife's H3. I wonder if it will be paid off this spring before I get it back on the road.

How does it drive if you manually shift it from, 1,2,3? Any slipping or does it engage everytime with no fuss? 06-07 H3's have the gear selector electronics on the outside of the transmission. It can get water in it and go nuts. Also the TCM is built into the earlier models PCM. If the fluid looks good and doesn't smell burnt I'd honestly check the electronic side of it. Disconnect the battery and see how it shifts. If it's the same it's internally in the transmission. If it's okay then it's probably electronic related.

And it says it's permeant I can't cleer this code and I don't know what it's mean , the car idling ok and I got new spark plugs on !? So any one kindly help me out please and know this code
