V8 swap

Hello all, been a while since I've been on here, but I'm getting ready to get back on the H3T.

I need some direction from you fine intelligent folks.

I have a 3.7 in the T currently mated to the Aisin manual gearbox.

What I will be swapping in is a modified 5.3. It originally had the variable cam timing. I pulled that out and I put a slightly more aggressive cam back in. So outside of the cam, it's an LH8. It will be mated to a NV4500.

The question comes in with the computer. I need direction on where to get someone to program the thing for the V8 with a different cam, and also work with the existing BCM (I assume they communicate). It being a manual also changes the traditional programs the usual Alphas run. Mechanically, I don't think I will have much issue with swap, but the computer has gotten me thinking in past weeks.

We tried to use the nv4500 on my last H3 and it ended up not working because shifter came through floor right next to the firewall

I'll be doing a remote shifter with the NV4500. There really isn't another choice for a manual trans. The Aisin won't work with the torque, and a nv3500 is borderline too weak as well.

You should try a Tremec TKO-600. I run one of these in my Impala, and it is a slick piece. After blowing the hell out of several Muncies and Super T-10s, I finally bit the bullet and forked over the $2600 for one. Best money I ever spent. I abuse it like I stole it...full-thottle (no lift) shifts at 5500 with a 502. It never misses a beat. The trans is available with several flanges and input shafts for whatever bell housing & clutch combo you are running. Best of all the shifter handle is flip-able and adjustable...so you can get it to come up thru the stock hole (or close to it). It uses an internal, top-loader style shifter so there is nothing exterior to jamb up like an old-school gearbox...

I think they now offer a 4WD version that accepts a standard t-case adapter...but I could not find any info on it. I know they make em because several full-size guys are running them in their 4x4s.

Another option is the Tranzilla...a beefed up T56...

P.s. The Tremec can be had with either a VSS or a cable drive speedo. Comes with an internal reverse light switch and a pig tail ready to connect to your back-ups. It is quite large (much larger than a Muncie) and I had to raise the "hump" in my Impala to get it installed. After the carpet and factory console was re-installed...you can't tell. I even run the original Hurst dog-leg handle and chrome shift knob.

Lol that's the transmission I posted in the link above...

I studied this transmission pretty well. You can mix and match different 1-4 and 5-6 ratios. You could probably also build one up from a corvette box by cutting the output shaft and make a custom adapter. If I would go manual, that's what I would go with. The shifter will still be about 4-5" too far forward so it would still take a custom shifter or console work.

Yes, I read that thread a couple of years ago and looked into it. The zf 6 is huge in comparison to the nv4500 and would be difficult to fit without a 2" bodylift. Also, the shifter is still in the wrong location.

That's a bummer. I always liked that tranny. Maybe in an H1....
