Whadda ya know about Mobile, Alabama?

I'm working on getting a job in Mobile and don't know anything about the city other than I've run I-10 thru it east and west, and I-65 north & south. Never stopped and spent any time there.
Anybody familiar with the area? The job I'm looking at will be with Airbus and the area I'd be working in will be at/near the airport. I've heard Daphne is the place to be, but it's on the other side of the bay, and the access is thru "the tunnel". If the tunnel gets backed up with an accident or hurricane closure, there's one other, longer way to go. Either way, Daphne seems like a long way to get to work.
Any info will be helpful.

I live in mobile, well work in mobile commute back and forth from gulf shores. It gets boring quick here. I would say somewhere across the bay is the best place to live. The tunnel isn't so bad, you can take the causeway which runs basically around the tunnel so you can skip the traffic when it gets backed up on the bridge.
If you ever find any trails close by please let me know. I'm sick of mud holes haha

Dude, I live in "boring quick here" country already. Once you've done the beach scene enough times in Destin, that's it. If you want to do anything cool, you got to go to the big city---Orlando is 6hrs, New Orleans is 4hrs, Biloxi (ok, not big city, but gambling and Hard Rock) is 2-1/2 hours, Atlanta is 6hrs. So I've dealt with the not much to do, but Mobile probably has more to do than what's around here. Oh yeah, and all there is for wheeling here is the mud as well---yeah, it gets old pretty fast.
I was hoping to have better access to go north of Mobile for some good camping and wheeling. An hour or two out wouldn't be bad.
From my understanding, Mobile also had a HUMMER dealer, so they might be a good option for heavy maintenance if needed.

As for the malls, yeah I was hoping there'd be something with some respectable curbs to pose on!

Oh yeah I know exactly what you mean I just live in the Alabama side of the beach scene.
Man if you ever want to go wheeling and find a place let me know I would love to go!
As far as the old HUMMER dealer, yeah it's now Joe Bullard Cadillac. Right across from the Bel-air Mall well the only mall. They still have the HUMMER test track. Girlfriends mom just bought a Range Rover from there and they let her take it in the track. I think most of the managers there still drive Hummer's.

Not trying to attack anyones home personally, but when I have had to drive to florida from texas (old parents) I make sure I have enough gas to make it through and past Mobile without having to stop. Not my brand of beer...
