You Find a New Trail, drive it.....like it... what next?

So I had some time to burn Saturday morning While waiting for my GF to get off work... So naturally I start exploring some back roads...

Then I come across a bunch of fun little trails that seemed to connect to each other..... the area just had some real bad flooding, so I tried my best to not wreck it. Meaning some times I just had to turn around before reaching the end of the trail. I was also alone, I didn't want to take any chances as it would be a LONG walk out (40 miles or more).

I have a few maps of the area and it seems to be all government land and none of these trails are marked, I am going to look into why those trails are there and if I am allowed to be on them....

What would you do?

• Tell a buddy and no one else and hope you don't get caught while in there.
• Do a lot of poking around and expose the area to others, who could wreck it for everyone?
• Map it all out with a GPS and use it as a new trail run, after checking it all out that its all good....

Or perhaps something I haven't listed above.... what are your thoughts!?

Start with a buddy, or two, especially if you can get stuck in the mud. Start mapping and exploring and I think you'll find out sooner or later if the land is safe and legal to drive on.

Looks like a forest service roads. Maybe a good idea to talk to a local rangers to see if it is fine to drive on?

I'd organise a run with the local CHC Albertan members, Sugarphreak's ALWAY's in for a good run, even if it's just mild trails. This way it gives you a reason to roundevous at the local Timmies to get the day started! Woo hoo

Well the area is an interesting one.

• Its right near the start of a Provincial Park (similar to a State Park) still about 10 km away
• Many of the trails comes off of a "forest demonstration" road (a road that loops through the woods with signs for city kids to learn about trees and such with a few hikes to check certain things out, like a 1930's back country saw mill)
• There is a sign saying that camping is allowed in the area as long as you are 1 km from the road ways (1000m, or 0.621371 miles)
• There is also a bunch of oil/gas well's and pipe lines running through the area
• There are logging operations in the area
• It is not too far from a well known OHV friendly area (and my back road map book that shows loads of comprehensive data, does not show the area I found to be any different then that OHV friendly area)
• The trails are possibly from running seismic lines to test for the underground composition of the area

I have been on the site for a bit now, been waiting for someone to organize something.... maybe I should just step it up and organize something!.... problem is I am not sure were everything leads to yet lol
