How to install a Lightbar using G2 or similar brackets

I've been asked about this a couple times, so here it is with pictures

remove the fake air-box cover by pushing up on it - it may be stiff, so pry GENTLY, it will pop off

there are screws hidden under the rubber, pull the rubber off the window surround but not all the way off.

like this

curved 50" light, this works as well for a 52.5" light

test fit

be sure to measure to the point you're going to mount the light - it's pretty easy to do if you use the center screw hole as the only first mount then move the end up or down as required

run self-tapping screw through the plastic and into the metal A pillar - there is some variation about where to put the light. I put mine so you can, if you scoot forward a bit, see the bottom of the light bar... but honestly, it's simply a matter of aesthetics about how far up or down the pillar you put the light bar.

remove the bracket and plastic cover to expose the post. there is a snap-lock that holds the top of the plastic cover to the rail cover... it's a pain but patience and a small screw driver you can push it apart

drill, then mount the nutserts - the metal is at least 3 layers thick so when you drill, you will have to go through 2 layers to get enough depth to put the nutsert in place... be sure to fully-tighten the 'serts

reassemble

optional:
On the G2 brackets, it holds the light a lot further from the windshield then I think it should be - so you can redrill the holes (and was the impetus of building my own brackets)

Hope this helps

I put a straight bar up using the G2 brackets (not the curved one). One funny thing - first time it rained I realized that one of my wipers was JUST nicking one of the heat fins. TINK ... TINK ... TINK ...

I relieved a bit of plastic off the wiper blade to eliminate. I'll see next time I buy wiper blades whether I need to adjust the position of the bar to eliminate. Also still need to put some RTV on the fins to eliminate whistling.

Very happy with the bar and the installation.

Was it the short wiper blade or the long blade hitting ? If it was the long blade why not just run 2 short blades ?
