I just looked at a G Wagon on the Fletcher Jones showroom floor with a $179,900.00 sticker...and it was purple. ( No I was not interested ) $255,000.00 for the new model seems like a better deal/more for the money

ORE did build one portal axel jeep and "forward control" dodge, they lasted one trip and were converted back to normal.

I have no idea what "fearless cheap" is, and I don't think comparing a Wrangler that someone tossed some portal axles under that cost almost as much as the car itself to a $255,000 production vehicle is fair. That's like comparing a Honda Civic to a Ferrari just because you put a turbo on the Civic...

"Fearly cheap" portal axels conversion kit is ~$2500 per wheel. And Honda Civic with proper turbo will leave any Ferrari eating dust. G wagon roll on every corner that it takes at any speed (similar to samurai).

"Fairly" cheap I think is what you meant to say.

You're missing the point with the Civic/Ferrari comparison. It wasn't just about the overall speed of the cars, it was everything about them.

And why are you talking about the G500 rolling in corners? If you take a corner too fast in any SUV/truck it will roll, especially a lifted one. That sounds like grasping for straws as to why a Jeep with portals is better than the new G500, even though the Jeep will be just as likely to roll.

And yes, we can put portal axles under our vehicles and gain the same clearance. However that is not what my initial post was about though. It was about a really sweet vehicle that Mercedes is going to be making and someday I might be able to pick up used. Can't we just appreciate this vehicle for what it is, and not resort to "Oh, well, I could do THAT to a Jeep and save $200,000."? You're still not going to end up with the same vehicle.

As much as I love my H3, I see qualities in other vehicles that make me desire them, such as Land Rover Defender's, Land Cruiser's (the nice ones everyone else in the world gets to have but not here in the US), the G wagen, Unimogs, etc. But I personally am not going to spend tens of thousands of dollars trying to turn my H3 into any of those, and I certainly wouldn't waste my time doing it to a Jeep Wrangler. After buying the H3 and seeing what I can do with a hard body offroad capable vehicle, I don't think I'll ever buy a Wrangler except to have as a toy. I'd rather get a diesel Land Cruiser first, or a Land Rover Defender, or a G wagen. But those are my preferences, I know some people think Jeeps are the only worthy offroad vehicle out there, and I agree they are fun, but there are so many other options out there that I like better and work better for me and my family.

Have u seeing that 6x6 G in real life? Its Luxury offroader , if you put it under stress on the rocks like we do it will be falling a part just like land rover and cruiser. So no matter what anyone will say of our style wheeling it will need to be upgraded and beefed up just like any other mass produced vehicle. But then u looking into $100,000s+. Personally i have seeing only H2 and H1 being "most expensive" vehicles on the trails, other 99% are jeeps.

You comparing Civic and Ferrari and yes at the end of a day Ferrari will be Ferrari. But as dedicated racer its not that good.

FYI G rolls a lot easier that other SUVs.

I give up. You seem intent on misinterpreting everything I say. Go have fun with your turbo'd Civic and Jeep's.

BTW, if you're going to have build threads, you might want to actually have pictures in them. It wastes everyone's time that tries to read through them.
