Where to mount switches?

I'm going to add a few switches (up to 5) to my dash for additional lights. I'm using the lower center console blanks for a rear locker and an it-ain't-never-gonna-happen front locker. The switches generally will not exceed 1" square outside diameter. They can be any configuration - 3x3, 1x5, etc.

I was considering the knee bolster but am unsure how to remove it.

I'm also considering the trans tunnel - in the plastic below the shifter towards the driver's leg - but also don't know how to remove that plastic.

Any help on removing those pieces or other suggestions for switch mounting?

Check out paladine's garage, his switches are in the knee bolster. That also happens to be where mine are as well, just not as nice.

The knee bolster is removed by un screwing the parking break, and probably the hood pop lever, from the plastic, then popping the side of the dash off that is next to the door, then the whole thing kinda just pops off

I know that you've seen this before, Alex, but I'll post it here anyway for anyone that hasn't seen it yet. It works great.

So just remove the two handles and the rest of the attachments are just the plastic snaps?

Should be. Its been over a year since i removed it. Behind the plastic is a metal bolster that sits a little farther back, that is screwed into the rest of the dash system, but the plastic knee bolster is NOT attached to that. The plastic clips are a b**** though!

I put my ARB locker and compressor switches in the coin tray right in front of the shift lever. Made my own little aluminum plate to cover the area. Sorry I don't have pics. :(

I have some here in the area more under the dash. Plenty of room to drill without taking anything apart. I've had the whole console out before and as I recall it is bolted down under the rear seat mounts and a few other places.

Really like the switch array Paladine! Where can these switches be found? And is there a way to have a remote switch to power this array, so the switches dont get accidently turned on by wife or knees or any other way?

I picked these up from 12voltguy.com. He can make them into whatever array you want. I've never had a problem with turning them on with my knees. I have accidently nudged my lights on when turning my key. That's the reason that I put my locker switches to the right. I don't know how big your wife's knees are, but you shouldn't have an issue.

So some of you may be wondering - why the Zombie lights?

Answer: if you saw I Am Legend you'd know that certain zombies burn up when exposed to UV light - kind of ike vampires! :)

Thats nice and clean to Recon! As far as the Zombie lights go, you could double up and have a mobil sun tan booth! Might get interesting!

Pretty sure you've seen mine. Not as good looking as others, but gets the job done and it's out of the way. I could easily squeeze one more to the left of the 3 and not ever touch it with my leg or knee. I thought about doing something similar to paladine's but decided to try this set up first, so far no complaints.

Paladine, I was working to get switches mounted in that same spot today, similar to your arrangement, but found the knee bolster bracket is right behind the plastic. Did you remove the metal supports?

I want mine above the rear view mirror. Like a pod...keeping the switches away from hands and knees and in the line of sight on the trail.

Yes, it took some trimming but didn't affect anything. My knee panel still mounts up fine and holds tight. I don't regret putting them there at all.
