Not much you can do about the head issues other than replacing the head... or swapping the engine. The transfer case issue is very fixable once you get past any aversion you may have to manually shifted part-time cases. 89-91 passenger drop 241's with the VSS tailhousing would be a simple swap mechanically, and they're dirt cheap, very strong, and very reliable. But.... you have to put a shifter through your floorboard. ;)

OP- Good to hear you are getting the repairs paid for. It does seem like the dealers are becoming less responsive to Hummer repairs now that the brand is a mere memory.

As far as the h3 being a club vehicle, I agree completely. Plus, if they were still pumpin' H3's out of the GM plant, they wouldn't be nearly as cool as they are with only a few of them around. The fact GM killed off Hummer scared all the soccer mom's into trading their H3's in for an Escalade and put the H3's into enthusiasts hands where they can be truly appreciated...and actually get wheeled.

I didn't actually consider buying one until I found out they were pulling the plug on the brand.

MaxPF, I know you probably have an answer but how will you keep the computers happy?

It would depend on how the TCCM communicates information with the rest of the vehicle. The main thing is for the PCM or TCM to know the t-case is in low range, so that it can make the appropriate corrections for the low range ratio.

I believe it communicates via VSS (vehicle speed sensor).

I mean how the fact that the vehicle is shifted into low range is communicated. For instance, in the older LS PCMs, you simply ground a certain pin to tell it you are in low range. In later vehicles it is communicated to the PCM or TCM via the GMLAN bus from either the TCCM or the BCM, depending on how the 4-lo input is handled. I'm guessing the newer GMLAN based H3's probably originate the 4-lo signal from the TCCM, which means the TCCM would need to be kept intact and functional. In the some truck swaps I have seen they have simply taken the shift motor off the electric case, left it plugged into the harness, and tied up out of the way. It's an expedient solution, but it works. It would be nicer to be able to eliminate the TCCM and shift motor entirely, but that would require another way of communicating "4-lo engaged" to the TCM.

Well I just got my h3 back. Glad the warranty covered everything $1400 to rebuild the transfercase! I do have a slight vibration now at around 70-75 MPH not sure if its from the transfercase being removed and installed again or from the 2" shackles I installed right before the truck went into the shop. Either way I am excited for this weekends three day offroad vacation.

My guess is that the shackles screwed up your pinion angle, which is the cause of the vibes.

I was hoping that was not what it was... that was an awful job to switch them out. Every bolt was stuck.

Anyone else have driveline vibration after installing 2" rear shackles?

The h3 survived the three day trip this past weekend. Hopefully I can get some pictures up soon. Having a working transfercase was awesome!
