If gm was smart they would have made a 3.3l i4 diesel with common parts from a duramax, pistons, rods, injectors. Would have made a great aftermarket following and saved them some production costs as well.

Only part that would be different would be the pistons. Rods and injectors could still be the same. Besides leave room for a mid level V6 diesel.
