Hey guys,

Quick question on my options for an air intake on my H3T Alpha. It has the 5.3L v8. I know K&N only makes one for the v6. What are you guys running in yours and where should I buy?

Thanks,
Jake

Airdoc intakes, cheap, reliable, great quality, retains factory airbox, and a forum sponsor. I would recommend this 100%

I honestly think the Volant CAI for the 09-12 Colorado V8 would work, but I didn't want to spend 200.00 on a CAI since I'm probably going to grab an ARB snorkel one day instead.

If it fits the Colorado, it will fit the H3 Alpha, I just installed a complete Colorado supercharger set up on my 08 Alpha and fit is perfect, air cleaner included.

Leave it alone. Use a Fram air filter. Drive it. Doubt if any gains you would get are worth it. AirDoc is a great product but I think it only fits the 5-cly (no V6s in H3s).

AirDoc had a 5.3L kit, but it really just eliminates the silencer on the OEM setup. It's such a short run from the OEM box to the throttle body I can't see myself paying the 150.00 for it.

The Volant system was a really nice design on the 09-12 5.3L Colorado and I really wanted one, but now I'd like an ARB Snorkel instead.

Ok so I've looked for the right thread to post this in and didn't wanna make another repost every time I have a question like what's going on with all the shock absorber post but this is as close to it as I could find

So the air doc intake, can you just pull that **** out and run a straight pipe with inter cooler elbows and get the same result??

The only thing you need to do that isnt obvious is to change the part that connects your airbox to the fender, as that part their is a major restriction. Its only visible when you remove the airbox, there should be something that gets the air from the fender to the box. You can replace it with a round silicone hose (as I recall from when I installed the airdox on my 06 I5)

what brand is the supercharger, how much $$, and would you recommend it?

I installed the Magnuson supercharger. Its the kit made for the 5.3 Chevy Colorado. Magnuson told me it would not fit or work on the H3 Alpha. It does fit and it works great. I have put 10k miles since the install. Not a single problem. My mileage averages out to 18-20 MPG as long as I drive normal. Best performance mod you can do for instant reliable power.

Hmmmm... I definitely don't need a blower, but I kinda want one. How's the transmission holding up?

Holy ****! 18-20? Is that the only mod you've done to improve your mpg? I must say that I'm disappointed in seeing that my Alpha is getting the same mpg as my deuce so an improvement to that would be pretty freaking awesome

The only things I have done are the supercharger, 160 thermostat, made my own CAI because I did not want to use the factory air box, and had the two rear cats removed and ran 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe from the removed rear cats to a high flow muffler. Runs great, sounds great and I feel the MPG is great. I have had no tranny issues so far.
I did add a aux tranny cooler. My engine seems to stay between 172 - 178, the tranny stays right at 150.

is there anyway I can remove the stock silencer myself instead of having to buy a whole after market air intake system?

Not to hijack this thread, but did magnuson provide you with a tune for the charger or did you have to dyno it yourself?

Whylee, were did you get your magnuson super charger? Do you have a part number? I know you got the one for the 5.3 colorado. Was it year specific? I am folowing your foot steps on my alpha.

An info and advice would be appreciated. Thanks
jeff

They don't provide a tune (or aleast with mine which was made for the H3 before they discontinued it). That said I had mine tuned at a local shop that does all the highend cars in my city

Magnuson would not provide the tune since the kit was for the Colorado, I had mine tuned at a local shop also, which is far better than a canned tune.

FYI, Edelbrock makes a supercharger kit for the 5.3 Colorado too.

I looked at the Edelbrock kit, but the Magnuson kit was at one time made for the H3 so I can get away with using the carb emissions number and it all seems legit for smog testing.
