Brake replacement time.... What brands or style have you gone with and had good luck?

As stated brakes need doing. I'm looking to replace rotors and pads.
What have you guys gone with?
I looked at the deals on flee bay but just not sure.
Already now the process. ..saw an old thread by a member on how they did the job.
Just know that I tow daily and I'm getting fading and pics poor braking as of late.

GM OE is not bad...

But if you wanna try something else try these. I think a member here used these brake motive and likes them

Keep in mind there are three levels of GM pads. Your OE ones are more expensive, $75 for the rear, $84 for the front. The most common ones, and the ones that you see for the $99 dealer brake jobs are the Durastops, $39 for the rear, $40 for the front. And then there are some really cheap ones (AC Delco Advantage), stay away.

I've used the Durastops and had good luck and good performance. I did not like the top of line Raybestos. I also like the OE rotors.

On the H3, I think GM did a pretty good job with the brakes but others have had luck with other brands too.

I still swear by these.... LOL

I know they're cheap, but they really are Powerstop brakes, just aren't advertised as such. They've held up great on all the vehicles I've put them on, and were working excellent on the H3.

I run oem brakes, stop well and last 30K before needing to be replaced!
Do the power stops have that kind of longetivity?

My Power Stop setup has close to 10K on it now with not a single issue. Stops great, rotors are holding up well, no squeaks, and hardly any brake dust! Plan on buying a set for my 02 Land Rover Discovery when the time comes (wife drives my Alpha now).

On my 2, OE all the way, but a different pad than the 3's. Yes, three different levels. The Durastops, we call them Durasqueaks. Also, the lower end advantage, never had them come back, they are a semi metallic pad. My delco rep, says that is actually less problems than Durastops. Just make sure you reface the rotors too! More labor, but less issues

Well, Lol! I hope I got an alright product for the price....I went with the Auto-zone lifetime warranty Brake Pads #834627 DG1119 (So I hope these will be a decent product) The store is about 5 blocks walk from my home.I also went with Auto-zone 2 yr. warranty Brake rotors #897612 5703 (Again hope these will be a decent product) One side note the pads with the new rotors were extremely snug fitting. I actually ended up with the backing plate on the drivers rear pad being deformed. Had to straighten it a bit and it seemed to work fine after that. And those little clips that go into those even littler holes... Lol I will have to get the stuff for the rear next.ChrisSide note has anyone tried the $59 ebay specials? Two rotors + pads for the low price of $59 bucks. Rear onlyCompany out of Chicago.

Did you use a c-clamp or something to push the caliper pistons back into the caliper?

Had enough c - clamp to get sunken but the pads and rotors were just way snug.

On a fun side note the front brakes stop smooth and no shuddering anymore.

Are the rear liken to that of a front wheel drive vehicle?
In the sense that the front brakes do a vast majority of the work...
Or does the H3 have equal wear front and rear?

1st time changing brakes on a 4 wd hummer.

The rears should last a lot longer than the fronts

I think off road activity greatly shortens brake pad life span, especially the rears, as traction control kicks in to limit wheelspin.

So,
Found out from management at autozone today that pads purchased are not true ceramic. Instead they are a semi met ceramic mix with binder.
Had to remove driver side and use warranty to replace hub and pads lol. The rotor /pads were fitting to tight and dragging noticeably. The guys at autozone were very helpful and made the swap easy. I ended up swaping the hardware again even though I did that last spring when replacing the hub. It just made sense with Wisconsin salt from winter.

Had to pull hub off gf's h3 and replace today anyway.
Hers was just replaced in April but was tit@ up again. Went with Timken 1st time and had a fail. Called amazon and they covered it under warranty fully. Sent a new 2 day. They are truly a great biz. A weird thing is the pads on hers were replaced last spring. I noticed today that the bottom and top edge on each pad is already scored terribly.
Those were autozone too.

when you replaced the hub did you torque the axle bolt to the right torque?
And I have had problems with Autozone pads being to thick many times. and now I just buy AC Delco they fit and they come with metal sliders and last longer. I think there well worth the extra coast.

I think you just might be right. The pads from GM just seemed better quality.
