Nice find Connor. What are your plans for refinishing it? Having it blasted and powder coated or bed lined? Maybe rebuild the winch while its apart?

Current plan is to have it sand blasted and coated, im not sure which is stronger powder coating or bed liner?

A winch rebuild is a definite. I don't really know much about winches, so whatever doesnt work will be replaced or fixed. A hawse fairlead is definitely in the future. The winch already has synthetic line so that's a plus.

Professional bed liner would probably hold up best and DIY bed liner would be easiest to touch up. Powder coating (not like the crap that came on the BA) is quite durable though. I am having mine powder coated in satin black to match my Thorparts rear bumper.

Did you get a 06/07 skid plate from Jesse?

I know I'm a couple hours away but if you want any help putting it on, let me know.

Nice find with the BA. It is not too hard to put on, but will require a bit of inner-fender trimming to fit an Alpha.

Enjoy it!...I know you'll keep us posted.

Really nice job on the 08 alpha. I'm new to the forum. I have and 07 H3 and I was checking out this thread cause I'm looking at adding some similar fog lights for the roof and brush grill. How are the lights working out? And what size
lights did you go with? The real wheels bar is pretty pricey but don't see many other options. How much height did the roof rack light combo add to your truck. I'm worried it may be touch and go with my garage. Thanks

The lights are working out well. The lights are kc slimlights. The roof rack that i have (ranger) adds about a foot at the highest point. The realwheels is pricy, i got it b4 the prices skyrocketed. I would recommend custom light bar, or a rack with it built in.
Also on the lights, i would go the led route, less draw on the battery and amp, and just as bright if not brighter.

Looking at your tires - are they 33" or 32"? I noticed you have what looks like a 32" on the roof. If you have 33s installed then don't think about using that 32" one even as a spare. You can tear up some gears by doing so.

Here is my 2 cent: MTR tires are excellent off road tires but the noise might buzz your head. If I had a chance to replace those tires for free, I would have chosen Goodyear DuraTrac.

Have you decided what tires you want yet?

Dip those wheels when you do the tire swap. Now that you've de-chromed...they stick out like a like straight guy at a Gaga concert!

Let me know if you need help with the BA and/or winch project....I know people. Definitely enlarge the hole where the line comes through the front of it. For some reason they made this hole to work with the roller but, its too small for a Hawes type. Failure to enlarge it will surely result in a chafed winch line ($$$). Its a minor mod but, since you are re-coating it (like most BA owners)...now is the time. Also, you might consider using your previous brushguard with the BA. The one that comes on the BA can be un-bolted, and tossed aside. I installed some stainless button-head bolts to conceal the holes....

Those same holes also make a great place to mount your Hi-Lift. I think I have a couple pairs of BA bumper jack-mounts lying around. Lemme know if you're interested...I can throw em my box, and get em to you the next time we hook-up for some wheelin...

Thanks for the tip CJ. The BA is STILL in my garage because a combination of laziness and no time have prevented me from getting it blasted and coated. I will have the opening widened slightly before i have it all finished. I think i will keep the brushguard that it comes with though.

Well I started the tear down of my BA bumper today. Hoping to get it welded together and blasted this week most likely going to pick up a new winch if I cant get the mile marker to work.

Yeah that looks like the typical BA...total rust bucket! Obviously came from the "salt-belt". I have access to several powder-coaters in Indy that will make that thing better than new...hit me up if you need any help.

As far as the winch goes...its probably something minor. A dis-assembly and cleaning would do it wonders. Once you get it cleaned up you can bench test all the connections and make sure everything works the way its supposed to before re-mounting on the truck. You can by-pass the controller and test the winch with a pair of jumper cables. Simply ground the black post, and connect 12v to either the green or red posts. This should energize the motor in or out and at least tell you if the motor is good or not. Most of the time...the issue will be entirely inside the controller. The MM-9500 has a solid state controller, so there are no solenoids inside it....its just a sealed bake-a-lite box. If you can't get it to work...call Engo and have them send you a replacement controller. Engo is ran by the former head of Mile Marker and I'm sure he would hook you up. BTW...You can use any 12v controller on it, (I use a Warn controller on my identical MM-9500).

Thanks for the tip CJ. Winch disassembly is going to happen some time this week, hopefully I'll find our what the issue is, and get everything cleaned up. It needs a new line anyway....the one on it was caked in mud and never properly cleaned so its rotting.
