I would stray away from durarurds. And I don't think they make a 37. Talk to 06 H3 about them. He's got bad history. And one I saw, pretty flat area

If I don't go the military route i'll save up for some 17" rims and some mt/r's with kevlar then. I'm still reading about people having goodluck with this combo, running 6&7 psi and crawling rocks with no problem.

And second with Zach stay away from duratracs...just save the money while you wear out the current rubber u got...and use that saved up money for some 17' inch rim and some MT/r's with Kevlar...just because I love this tires so much...and want to run them on 37/8's is the only reason I'm going to upgrade to 17 inch beadlock rims I don't know what rim yet...but I have about a year or so to figure this out.

**** 17s prices! Prices for a 17in rim on a 37 is DRASTICALLY more expensive in a 17 compared to a 16. For example, Tirerack.com 365/75r16 KM2 (38x14.5x16) 372 a tire 38x14.5x17 KM2 532 a tire.

Interco the price is nearly the same between a 16 and 17 but the price difference between 15 and 16 is drastic.

Im gonna probably stick with 16s. I wouldnt mind 16.5 rims and military tires but I refuse to run them for one reason, WEIGHT. Weight hanging off your axles KILLS parts. My brother is running a 345/75r16 KM2 and aluminum rims weighing in at 102 lbs a tire/rim combo. I have not found an exact weight on the military tires some sites say 83 some say 115lbs. Who knows. On pirate they say a military surplus tire/rim combo is close to 150 lbs. 150 lbs is a lot of tire to carrying around on the front diff. That poor little turd couldnt hang with my POS 64lb duratracs on 20lb stock rims.

If I had a dana 60 and a 14 bolt then hell I would run the heaviest tires and not give a crap.

If you wanna keep stock rims look into the trxus MT, Irok radial, Maxxis creepy crawler, 345/75r16 KM2, 365/75r16 KM2, 385/75r16 Mud Grappler 395/70r16 Baja MTZ by mickey thompson. All those tires are 37s/38s and lighter. Honestly having a 16 in rim is a huge disservice, options are limited but I like the 16s and for now I will keep em. My next set will be a 37/38in tire and I am not concerned one bit, I have the strength to run em and the gearing to run em. Derian atleast you have a V8. I would look into a superchips tuner and do the 91 or 93 octane tune. My brothers superchips livened up his jeep. You do mud right? That is less stressful then rocks.

I plan on doing it all, I'm glad you gave out all those suggestions. I thought keeping the 16" rim wasn't even an option. Can the rancho even run a 38? Or would a body lift be required?

Actually, wasn't joking with you. Know the history. Was a serious question.

I mean, i'm going to hawkpride offroad later this month and plan on running trails that do have rocks... I've done some pretty basic rock crawling on country roads, nothing serious.

Lol! Truth is, done that trail twice. I won't do it again. First time, broke a halfshaft. Second time got tugged a few times. My undercarriage has the scars and my rear door. Was fun! And yeah! We have a lot of rock out here. Some really fun trails. LCC is one of my favorites. Check out some if the trip reports.

The lowest priced 37s for 17 rim I have found is goodyear mtr $346 at 4 wheel parts.
Cooper disco ST/Maxx @ 36.9" x 13.1", runs $292 and its a hybrid AT. Its also on the lighter side for that size @ 79#. The STT runs close to that price but slightly heavier. There is also a 70 USD rebate on a set of four, so price can be as low as $280!

Thats good info AMRG, if I had only seen that last year when looking at tires I might be on them now. One thing I don't see mentioned is the military takeoffs are junk offroad. Poor self-cleaning, poor traction, punctured sidewalls. Sure, they last 80k miles but they are hard as a rock. They also can be a mother to balance (why do you see brand new sets for sale??? Well...). I would stick with a 35" MT/r over these tires. They may look like a well known tread pattern but they don't perform the same.

To help regain mpg back you might wanna regear if you go to 37s. Only people who can regear are alpha people and people who don't run stock front diffs
