I saw the footage of him holding the belt in his hand all frustrated. If he can't be bothered to learn repairs he should at least have his copilot learn how to. :( Money can't buy common sense.

Lol they're not your average minis. Frustrating day for Robby, leader wouldn't move over when he was signaled by Robby so Robby hit a rock trying to pass him.

If you have ever driven a Mini they are a blast to drive. The S model is pretty quick, they stop and turn on a dime. Really a pretty surprising ride that I wasn't expecting.

Day 10

Robby gets 4th. That drops him to 3rd overall. He lost the time he had accumulated on the leader. :( Robby may be disqualified for infringing article 1P and 3P of the technical rules and Day 09. Something on the truck was illegal or did not meet standards.

I think I read the so called Minis had tubular frames under that body skin.

It never ceases to amaze me a team with money and capacity to build and compete in a vehicle can't follow design parameters. Why was that not discovered in a tech inspection BEFORE the race and corrected??????????? I will admit sometimes it is interpreted wrong but having a pre-inspection called for before a race is the safe way to go and have it signed off on by an official. Crazy stuff to lose on a technicality.

Robby has appealed the ruling and as a result is still running the race. What ever was done was approved last year from what I gathered and approved I thought earlier in the race. From what I gathered it was whoever THIS person was that saw the track at that particular check point.

Hopefully it will be resolved in his favor. I watched that piece too but going on last years ok, is sort of sketchy but then he went on to say it did get approved presumably this year, I hope it will be explained more.
As usual not quite enough info for us to know what that was all about.
It seems if you are winning these issues come up?
Go Hummer

I like the system he's got for ctis. 4 air gauges ,lines marked for sand pressure and gravel pressure, toggle switches to inflate deflate each tire, and best part of it all instead of air tanks, the spare tires are just hooked into the system and act as air storage since they're already there. Wonder if a compressor is even needed.

Robby was not too happy with Nassir and the way he quit ,was not a team player and never listened to team orders and generally just drove in a way that broke stuff or almost crashed etc...even when he was told to back off a bit. In Dakar it takes more then being able to stomp on the gas pedal. Although he did win last year with that technique in turbo diesel VW buggie.

Day 11

Game over for Robby Gordon. He lost over an hour, and got 24th for the day. This drops him to 4th overall but with a lag of over 2 hours on the leader. :( He can still race, but his chances of winning or even making a top 3 win is over.

I just saw a clip on NBCSP and Robbie was saying something to the effect about that.
He mentioned the guy had been wanting to quit, Robbie sounded disgusted to me.
Like I (me) said, not Robbie "the pretty boy" driver syndrome, Robbie was just tactful enough not to say it.
Then the interviewer asked about the problem about the belt and Robbie said something like, yea I don't know why they did not put on another one and keep going.
There's your sign.

He says he broke 3 others and that was the 4th broken one. So they know how to change a belt, but maybe didn't think to bring a dozen alternator belts.

But even more shocking they say Robbie cheated by routing air from the tire inflation system. Into the intake beyond the restrictor plate. Now that's would be pretty sneaky. After all he was running against turbo powered stuff at high elevation, so makes sense. Robbie says he is not a cheater and that tube was only used as a way to deflate tires faster. He said he'd block it off and still be fast and that this in no way unfairly gave him an advantage. Sounds like American ingenuity at work...

He's disqualified but can keep running on appeal that takes 3 weeks. Hummer being 2nd and stage wins sure was nice while it lasted.

Just catching up on the DVR but I heard it as he broke 4 belts and gave up because something.. like the fan.. was breaking the belts and it would keep on happening.... Still keep goin till you run out of belts!

Ok, well I can see there being a limit to how many belts to carry:whaa:
Ya know on the Alpha if an intake tube is used and is too large it can be really close to the fan. Bouncing hard thru the desert at speed, things could move enough to cause a problem. Then they may have so many mods that may not be the case, but a thought!
I kept mine a 1/2 smaller right in there, just for some "breathing" room.
I will have to read some more on this. I had to go on a mission earlier.
It would be fun to see what they have but I got feeling now that hood stays shut.
Recliner racing is fun. I will dig into that some more.
