about those expensive axles, the axles are cheap, it's the bit that turns which is expensive. I just took delivery of mine today.

True. You can buy $300 D44's all day long. I found one a few weeks ago with an ARB air locker, 5.13's, and chromo shafts....for $700. I passed but. It would have been a good one for an H3 swap.

Dana 44s are way cheaper then a 60 too. I got my fully built 44 with a locker chromo shafts 5.13s beefy diff cover for 1k my buddy picked up an empty Dana 60 kingpin housing for 1k.
My other buddy just picked up a Dana 44 for 40 bucks bone stock with everything in tact. Adding brackets And abs retrofits make it more expensive but still WAY cheaper then a Dynatrac axle probably 1/3 of the cost CJ mentioned and finding a built 44 then welding on his brackets yourself will make it cheaper as well.

All true. Brackets & ABS hubs run around $800. So if you score a D44 that's already built, it can save you a bunch.
Panzer...I have five other D44s on a rack and ready to build. I also have a corp 10b (nearly identical to a D44) with an E-locker and chromo shafts. It's currently an 8-lug but I would be putting ABS 6-lug hubs on it anyway.
And yes I have driveshaft adapters...$99 shipped.

Seeing as though the rancho kit was nearly 3 grand, those prices really aren't bad.

Yes...but the labor is far more intense than a bolting-on a Rancho. It takes a welder, plasma cutter, grinder, and some other hand tools. More than anything it takes commitment, and a follow-through attitude. No matter how complete I try to make a "kit" it still ends up being a pretty intimidating project. If it were easy...we would see more solid axle H3's driving around. To date, I think there are less than a dozen.

Agreed 100%....nothing like sitting on the driveway in 100 degree heat eating sparks all day long. It can be done but it takes wayyyy more time.
