eBCM / Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement?

About a year ago my traction control and ABS modules started coming on and off. I'd also occasionally get a weird vibration in the brake pedal like the ABS as engaging. After a month or so the lights always came on. I had it in the shop at some point, and they diagnosed a rear ABS sensor. It was cheap enough so I replaced it, I've since replaced both front wheel bearings and abs sensors as well.

I've just ignored it, but since I had the truck in the dealership for the HVAC repair I decided to have them diagnose the issue. They said that the eBCM is bad and i'm looking at a $1200 repair.

Any other options here? Doesn't look to bad to replace the eBCM, but i've got to pull the master cylinder. I can get the module for roughly $200 on rockauto. But, it looks like it has to be programmed, and I'll also need to bleed the brakes which I also can't do without the Tech II.

If there aren't any other alternatives is this at least a normal price? I'm towing the camper to canada in a few weeks, So, I figured it's probably time to fix this, just a hard pill to swallow.

You don't need any Tech tool to bleed the brakes. But you do need to have the key on so the electric brake booster can build up brake pressure.
What's an eBCM?

So you can basically bleed this like any normal vehical then? Any idea what the bleed process in the tech 2 does?

eBCM is the electronic brake control module. It's the black box on the side of the master cylinder, and controls ABS/traction control operation. Apparently you have the pull the master cylinder to take it off. I don't think they could have made this more complicated if they tried.

BTW- need to get with you on a front skid plate here in the next few weeks. Have my defelice winch mount on order, but it's backordered and he wouldn't sell direct.

I've bled numerous H3s...nothing special about it. Pedal down...open valve...(squirt)...close valve...pedal up. Repeat until all the air bubbles are out, then move to the next corner. All four brakes are plumbed separately directly from the master cylinder, with no tee-blocks...so it makes bleeding pretty basic. I sometimes use a power bleeder if I'm working alone.

I would be highly suspect of the brake puter going bad. Sounds like a dealer b.s. story to me but, if they say that's what the problem is...I would let them fix it. The $1200 price tag basically means they don't have a clue but, they have enough fluff in the quote to fix whatever it is. For that kind of money...you should get a forever guarantee that the ABS light will stay off.

Better hurry...I got (2) skids left in stock.

From what little I found online it sounds like this may be in the normal price range for the eBCM, but was hoping to get some confirmation from someone that's actually had theirs replaced. Thanks for the bleeding info - that's helpful to know.

If I put in an order for a skid, can you just hang on to it until I make it down that way in the next week or two?

I will be in Indy this Friday. I can probably drop one off when I go past your place (Center Grove area?). LMK.

07custom in AZ is having similar braking issues....you might contact him to see if he has had any success trouble shooting it. He is HIGHLY modified however, so I'm not sure how much his info would help you. But his SAS brakes do the same thing...pulsing below 15mph, with dash lights.

Skeeter (on the CHO forums) in OKC had some brake master cylinder issues last year, might give him a ring too.

I'm in broadripple if your coming anywhere close. I'm at the airport at the moment heading out of town for work, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to meet you anywhere. If you can swing it, great. If not, completely understand. Just let me know.
