Extended Warranty Quotes from Dealership

Holy ****! Just for the hell of it I decided to find out how much it would cost me to extend my warranty coverage for my H3. I guessed about $1500-2000.
Here's what he quoted me...

"Brandon,
I am going to provide you two different quotes for coverage. These are both Major Guard coverages through General Motors. They feature the same level of protection as the Bumper to Bumper warranty through GM.

3 years or 36,000 miles with a $50 deductible - $2565.00 plus tax

4 years or 48,000 miles with a $50 deductible - $3585.00 plus tax

Let me know if you have any additional questions."

I got an additional 45000 miles on the H3 for $2200.00 and it has paid for itself about double so far. I don't ever buy the extended warranties but did in this case and it worked out very well.

Most of the aftermarket extended warranties are junk, they will send used parts and only cover certain things. Read the fine print. But GMPP is an excellent one. Any GM dealer will honor it. Mine more than paid for itself.

You might want to call around to different dealers, they are going off of what it's costs them and marking it up.

You've got an 08' same as me. Are you already out of factory warranty?

If you're going to get one get the GMPP. You can buy it online and shop for a much better price. It does not have to be purchased through your dealer. Just search it through Google. But I think your price will be about $2000 or a bit more.

FYI, I think I would have barely broken even if I had bought the GMPP as a lot of stuff is covered under the powertrain warranty.

coming from someone who doesnt have it...get a warranty if its from GMPP and a decent price. I have a cyl2 misfire and its probably a bad head, after hearing that dennis said with parts and labor it was 2700 (and im in california so I expect worse!) the warranty will paid for itself eventually. I wish I had it but I am at 85k miles...

I'll vouch for the GMPP. We got it when we bought our 2005 H2. I think it was about $2000 with $100 deductible. The truck was out of factory warranty. It has more than paid for itself. They have replaced a broken rear axle, leaking power steering hose, leaking oil cooler line, all the front diff seals, resealed the front diff, and replaced the front diff crossmember/ bushing. All for a cost to me of $200 in deductibles.

1. T-Case repair (orbital cluster broke, burned bearing)
2. Both front half shafts (leaky boot)
3. T-case replacement (many broken parts inside, got the redesign this time!)
4. Front diff rebuild (blown bearing)
5. Rear diff rebuild (broken e-locker)
6. Hood struts replaced
7. Front drive shaft replaced (leaky boot)

My warranty expired December. I will miss it!

All but #6 would be covered under powertrain warranty

The GMPP is great but I think many may underestimate what is covered by the powertrain warranty that was extended in 07. Be cautioned that GM may have reduced the powertrain warranty around 2010 for those models. Many of you know that my truck has been in the dealer many, many times and I don't think I would have covered, or would have barely covered, the $2200 cost of the GMPP. In my opinion it is a gamble, or maybe just peace of mind. Since you are considering it then there's no reason to not get it - you get that peace of mind - but you should understand exactly what you already have now, assuming you have an 07 or newer.

One benefit that GMPP may give you vs. powertrain warranty is an extension of time. I will be hitting both 100K miles and the five year expiration date at nearly the same time. GMPP may give you additional years.

Not an H3 but a previous owner had Major Guard on my H1, and had $30,000+ worth of work done on that program so yeah he got his moneys worth. [I got a folder with an 1" thick worth of service paperwork".

I talked to AM General and they told me it's no where near the record holder for warranty claims under the program

The major guard program is very good, I'd get it if it were offered to me, I'd consider any OEM extended warranty program, however as Zach stated, the 3rd party ones are pure trash.

I think Recon's warranty is the same as mine: If something breaks, upgrade it to something that wont
