The 5' will be better and the mount will support the length don't worry. The citizens band radiates in a circle so it's best to have a foot or so above the truck for best tx/rx. Also don't forget to check and tune your swr after installing a new antenna.

I have the 5' & 3'. The 5' makes all the difference. I would suggest you get the spring mount Firestik makes. I have it and it avoids breakage when off-roading. No problems on freeways either.

I'm not sure I'm really gonna need a spring out here in CA. Don't wheel w/ to many branches :) but 5' sounds like its the way to go

Be sure to post up some photos when you get it on and mounted! Maybe we can make some people envious! haha

I strongly suggest you get the Firestik HD spring at the base. It avoids damaging the fiberglass Firestik. If it was a metal whip it wouldn't matter.

True but the Firestik HD one is gauged for the 5' antenna. Others may be too weak and the antenna could be all over the place on the freeway. The Firestik has much greater wind resistance. There are probably better ones out there, but unless you know somebody that has tried a specific one, I would stick with that.
