Front bumper

Question, looking into a bumper winch combo and I really like the tor parts unit. Says its not dot approved. How many ofu guys run them and any trouble yet.

I havent heard of anyone having issues...Personally, if I was to get one I wouldnt even think of that being a problem.

I think what is meant by not DOT approved ia that they are homemade and not by a big company, ie amstar/BA and they haven't been crash tested.

Gotcha, hate to spend the money and not pass inspection. That would be my luck. Guess I could keep stock bumper and swap out for that

I don't think ANY aftermarket bumpers are "DOT approved" or "crash tested". I'm just trying to cover my arse if you plow into a Prius and liquify the occupants. The THORparts bumper (and most others) are 3/16" steel which is three-times the thickness of the stock bumper. The only exception to this is the Boulder Accessories bumper which is made from thinner material, and they are no longer being produced. Thick bumpers like this will no-doubt effect the built-in "crumple zones" of your truck. Instead of folding and crumpling...you'll transfer all that energy to whatever you're hitting. So that's why I have the disclaimer. I've sold a bunch of these and not had any problems with inspections or collisions.

Because you have asked, I'll give you my experience. Before I get caught up in a long ramble... the ARB bumpers are crash tested and will NOT interfere with the airbag deployment.

Back to my experience.

I had Ranch Hand bumpers (Front and Rear) on my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. I really loved them; sturdy and strong. I could jack from anywhere on the bumpers. I routinely walked across my front bumper in my garage to get to high stuff! The rear bumper itself was a class V hitch.

On June 1, 2010, coming home from work I was traveling 35mph on a through street. From the left, a kid blew the stop sign (because he was an impaitient as$) and wham-o. The front left corner of my Tahoe impacted his Dodge Intrepid on the right front and side.

The bumper did NOT bend. The bumper retained it's shape but pushed the frame back and right. Because the force of the impact was NOT absorbed by the Tahoe, the Dodge Intrepid bounced off the front and came around to smack the side of my Tahoe. So I had the initial hit forward, then a secondary hit that tossed me to the left. The airbags did NOT deploy in my Tahoe.

My knee was shoved into the lower dash (I was wearing seat belt) and I had to have surgery and therapy. The kid got ticketed, and it wasn't even his car.

My Tahoe was totaled and I got screwed by both insurance companies. Insurance companies are in the profit business not the take care of the customer business. No matter how cute their TV ads are, the bottom line is $$$$$.

If I change the bumper on my H3, it will be an ARB. That's just my humble opinion, take it for what it's worth!
