So are the aftermarket options for the front diff for a full locker ARB and Eaton E-locker?
And in regards to the Eaton e-locker is the stock locker that comes in the front of some H3’s is that an Eaton e-locker or is that a GM product? Next question Eaton doesnt list the Eaton e-locker for the front of the H3 whats the part #?

If you had to chose which way would you go?

Thanks

The first question that needs to be asked and answered is, do you have a cast iron diff carrier? Because if not, you’re wasting your money buying lockers. The aluminum front diff carrier cannot handle the forces of a locked gear.

Yes actually purchasing from a member on this site ( the cast iron center section). I wonder if the ARB is more durable, see alot people on here looking for rebuild kits for the e-locker or destroyed e-lockers, but maybe they see some serious miles and hard use.

I guess on board air would be a plus to the ARB, but its also an additional cost.

Thanks for any thoughts

My opinion is that the more frequent locker rebuilds are from improper use, like engaging while the truck is moving or under load vs. engaging, rolling forward a couple of feet, and then tackling the obstacle. The former leads to the rounded pins and plate. That said, maybe the others are better but the Eatons are not bad.

Stick with the Eaton for the front, rarely gets used and easier to install. Like Alrock said, just be mindful of how you use it and it will last.

Is the only Eaton for the front the original equiment version? Can you get any rebuild kits for those anymore? I looked up current Eaton E-locker aftermarket lockers for the H3 and unless I missed it, they only make one for the rear?

Eaton denies ALL knowledge of the front 7.6IFS locker. They do not sell them. They do not sell parts for them. GM sells some parts but, info and inventory are sketchy at best. They were optional in 09-10 only, when Hummer already had one foot in the grave. It’s hard to find anyone at GM to take the time to research front locker parts.

I do 7.6 rebuilds quite often…alum, iron, locked, whatever. They all suck. They are grossly undersized for the H3.

I do currently have a nice cast iron, 4.10, e-locked diff on my shop floor. 150k…no issues, all original.

Do you have a 2009-10 elocker front diff for H3T for sale? Or can rebuild one? I have two that are 90% operational, they both grind on take off.

That particular E-locked front diff is long gone.

I do rebuild a lot of Hummer H3 front diffs. Grinding on take off could be any number of issues...most likely pinion bearings and/or broken teeth on the gearset. The front E-locker parts are non-existent, and nearly all of them I tear down have broken ramp plates. I cannot find replacements anywhere, so I usually install a single track diff in place of the locker. Every once in awhile I find a good one but, they are few & far between.
