So, I've been wanting one of these 3's since they came out in '06, even before I got into 'froading (as my brother calls it, he likes to 'breve words). It's fricking awesome and I love it. I got divorced earlier this year and to celebrate not having a ball 'n chain anymore, I went out and bought this thing. I'm not going to lie, I'm loving my freedom these days. I saw this thing listed locally and my land rover was breaking down (again) so I said "screw it" and picked it up. I haven't regretted it yet.
Plans - get rid of exterior chrome, add black grill and skid plate, add solid spoke wheels. I really like those black rock Yuma wheels (cuz that's where I was born!), but I guess the hub is too big on these things so I'll stick with factory wheels. I'm not a fan of the super customizing everything. Exhaust. duh. these things are too quiet.
'Froading stuff - factory roof and grill lights, OME lift, 35 in Duratracs. Maybe a hidden winch bumper and grill guard from Predator, or an ARB. Dunno. Rear bumper from ARB? Probably. These things seem to be reasonably equipped for off roading already. Raised intake, roof rack, ladder, rock sliders, skid plates, stuff like that so I can advertise how 'froady I am. Who knows, we'll see i guess.
Post-paid off plans - I'd like to swap out the LH8 for an L92 and 6L90E. I think the engine would be easy enough, but the tranny is going to take some more research. Oh yeah, if I did that I could use the engine cover from an H2. heh. that would be funny, mostly to me.
Also, I'm a huge fan of solid axles. the IFS is the only thing about these trucks that I'm not a huge fan of (aside from 4 speed auto. come one, gm, put in a 6 speed). Maybe one of these days I'll do an SAS and 37"s. I don't trust the IFS with bigger than 35"s. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows.
Anyways, I've been into off roading since I moved to Utah from Texas almost 4 years ago (along with hiking, rock climbing, blowing stuff up in the desert, etc, it's amazing what you can do with public land). I had a 94 toyota pickup, jeep cherokee, land rover discovery, 95 suburban (does that count? probably not) and now the H3. Yeah, I'm hard on my cars. They die quickly. This list doesn't include the regular non-'froading cars, either. what is wrong with me....
Also, I'm going to be taking off the factory nerf bars, orange roof marker lights, and chrome grill. If you want them, holler an offer at me and I'll do it sooner rather than later.
Any suggestions other than that, let me know. I'm all ears. I don't know a lot about IFS and how to make it tougher or more flexy so I'll be doing some research on it. Well, this looks like a great off road oriented forum! I'm excited to be a part of the Hummer community!
