H3 UCP Up Armor System!!!

3/16 steel (7.65 lb/Sq ft) is 75% of the weight of 1/4 steel (10.2 lb/Sq ft), but going UP from 3/16 to 1/4" is an increase of 33% not 25%.

Yeah, I was tired when I wrote that. Either way, it will be heavy.

It looks like for weight, the 3/16" ones are about 145 lbs. 1/4" calculates out to about 195 lbs. So about 50 lbs more.

I haven't had a chance yet to price the 1/4" yet. Tried going back to work today because I felt pretty decent yesterday, but that was a mistake. I made it half the shift and had to come home. This is kicking my @$$ worse than anything in my life!

This should make you feel better. The wife and I are going over expenses for taxes and she asked me if my Paypal charges were all legit.

You never sent me an invoice for the balance, so she didn't pay it!!

I was doing a pre-trip inspection to see if anything was falling off and noticed that one of the bolts on the driver's side, was gone!
It seems the plates now shifted and I could not get one back in.
The guy swears he put one in and it shows in the picture.

It is now off about 1/16 so we could not get a bolt in even after loosening the others.
May just be the angle of the dangle or too many things to line up at once.

We decided to drill out enough to fit the bolt and noticed that bolt screws into a nut clip in the cross member. Not sure how all this happened but we put another nut clip in after drilling and all is good now.

I sort of suspect he was over aggressive in tightening that bolt and broke the old nut clip but cannot say for sure.

I was showing one of the other guys how to fly his new quadcopter that is the same as mine while he was on a creeper under there. lol

I have a spare cross member and will get a picture of where that is. Maybe that clip cannot handle the weight? or it was just too much torque applied when installing.



PS: anybody need some slightly used Boulder accessories underarmour with some extra plates under the transfer case.

No, not yet. I'm just now getting over my pneumonia enough to be able to do things. The truck I was going to design off of is no longer going to be available. But I have a plan B. I'm getting measurements from another member here and will be getting it worked out the hard way. I'll keep things posted when I get it worked out.

I would also expect that he over torqued it. The hardware isn't really that big, and those clips aren't very hard to strip out.

Well, I gave the KMW UCP a run for the money by taking some serious rock gardens in Last Chance Canyon. The plates head up great! I broke one bolt and stripped another on the trail. I was able to replace the broken one on the trail. I will take some pics once the rain passes by (yes, we actually got rain in California!).

So, here are some pics of the carnage:

I stripped out the missing bolt in the front skid.

The ribs did a fine job of keeping the metal straight.

I would hate to see what my bolts would have looked like if the shoulders were not there.

The extended portion past the transfer case did a great job.

The skids totally surpassed my expectations!

Sigh! I agree! This summer has been so insanely busy I can't even think straight! Believe it or not, I don't even have skids for my own H2! And I desperately need them. The stock ones are trashed!

I am really hoping life slows down some for the winter. This spring some things changed with my regular job and I've been away for training, working through weekends, and working extra hours all summer. I really need to get the Rancho and H3T skids figured out. Hoping soon!

Glad to see the skids working! Will you ever make a gas tank one? I mangled mine. Bought a new one, reinforced it but still hit it hard enough to where I know can fill up to 7/8 of a tank.
