Oh snap! (Pun intended)

All of a sudden, my incident in Last Chance Canyon doesn't look so bad!

I hope everyone made it home safe.

I stayed in big Bear last night... Checked in too late to get a Jacuzzi room :(It was a surreal trip. Just a domino effect starting with the Rangers chasing off Captain Planet at the discovery center.

i need to order a new idler and pitman arm Monday... After driving on asphalt... My steering is all soft now.

Good times.

I can't believe at what time you guys were making these posts that you just got home. This trail report is going to be a doozy.

I got home at 4:00 AM. Long and amazing day for all the right and wrong reasons. I will say, that in hindsight, the run in with the mushroom eating forest gnome at the Discovery Center turned out to be a sign of how the day would go. Zach will be writing up a full trip report but a brief summary would be one half shaft, two tie rods, one drive shaft, two T cases, two mirrors, a door, a surfboard rack, 3 tires lost to the rocks, And Kurt's idler and pitman arms were lost to the trail. In running the trail three times before with a total of probably 50 trucks we had lost one H3 half shaft on this trail. I guess incurring the wrath of the forest trolls has it's price. I am sure there was probably more carnage but I am a bit fuzzy this AM. All trucks but one were repaired on the trail and drove home. Amazing group that well typifies the Hummer and H4O spirit. Everyone pitched in to get all the trucks repaired, winched, strapped, etc. The carnage was so evenly spaced out that it seemed like we worked on trucks all day and night long. I really regret that we spent so much time on the trail and I didn't get the chance to socialize with all of the group as much as I wanted. Hopefully next time. I love this group of friends/wheelers. Can't wait to see everyone again soon.

Dave, what a day! Wish I was there to help work on the rigs. Did any carnage happen to sierrah3? I know this was his first run and hope he didn't have issues since this was his first run with us

Despite the plague of issues I had a great time, and it was nice to meet everybody! Though it was a bit long of a day for a trail that has been long considered a "warm up trail." Damn sharp, loose rocks!

Not really a trip report, but a small pov from the pilot seat of my gimpy ride. I was the second casualty -- I broke a rear halfshaft yanking one of the hummer wagons over an obstacle he had become wedged on. I heard it snap but didn't bring it up for a while...thought I could swap it out whenever we stopped for lunch so pressed on. It was mainly my detroit's fault (well...a little operator error too) so the least it could do it still get me to lunch with one rear wheel. When the 2nd tie rod went, I thought that might be a good time to "throw" in a new shaft. Well, I am no mechanic so I was kind of dinking around with my situation like some high school auto shop lackie trying every way but the right way, thinking everyone was eating lunch and fixing a tie rod. When I realized they were in fact waiting on me I was already knee deep into failed short cuts to change the shaft without popping the balljoint off. Decided to just go with a plug and not to make the group wait any longer (sorry).

The trail was a lot of fun, and I did happen to saw a lot of smiles between the occasional weeping and gnashing of teeth. There were a lot more loose rocks than I remember which made it challenging for everyone. It was particularly interesting with only one rear wheel pushing. I think we finally hit 3N16 around 10pm. We had collectively endured a fun trail, cool trucks, hanging with cool people and dirt in our butt cracks. Add in the afore mentioned tie rod (x2) and my shaft, a few tire blowouts, a corkscrewed driveshaft and a t-case issue and the trip had become one dirty martini.

I love martinis

What a day / night!

Like Ron, I was surprised by how much loose rock was on the trail. I don't remember it being THAT rocky.

All in all it was a great time. We overcame significant adversity and everyone helped out in whatever ways they could. I'd like to throw a special thanks out to Zach for leading us and to Anthony, Zach, Jared and Serge for coming back to help us while we were working on a flat tire. I'm still very foggy in my head, very tired, but I have a big grin on my face.

Based on foggy memory, the carnage list is something like:

2 tie rods
1 half shaft
1 prop shaft
1 mirror
1 (2?) t-cases
1 tow strap
2 (3?) tires

I could not be more pleased with how my truck held up. When (if) I wake up completely today I'll clean it up and take it for a short sanity check ride.... I wonder if maybe I need a new idler & pittman arms too. My steering has been pretty un-precise ever since John Bull.

Zach, Anthony, Mikkel and I went to Denny's around 1:30 AM in Big Bear, nothing else was open. We had a great time visiting while we observed all of the colorful locals. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Great way to top off a long day.

First of all, wanted to thank Zack for guiding such a large group on this run. Despite an interesting day it was a lot of fun on a trail that was more challenging than anticipated. It was great to meet some more members. My arm is sore from throwing so many rocks into the talus field. Glad everyone got home safely.
